Heading out for an adventure this long weekend? ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿฅพ

A quick reminder: check the weather, know your route, pack for the conditions, and make sure someone knows where youโ€™re going.

And if Mother Nature has other plans, itโ€™s okay to postpone the adventure. The trails arenโ€™t going anywhere! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Plan ahead, stay safe, and have fun out there! ๐Ÿงก

๐ŸŒง๏ธ Long weekends are made for adventures.

Maybe you were planning to take in the views at , explore the The Bluff Wilderness Hiking Trail, or climb Mountain for the incredible views in .

But sometimes, the weather gets a vote.

It can be disappointing to put an adventure on hold, but heavy rain can turn a familiar trail into a very different experience. Wet conditions can make rocks and roots slippery, reduce visibility, obscure trail markers, and make it easier to become lost or injured.

If conditions aren't looking great where you're headed, changing the plan doesn't mean giving up on the adventure. It means saving it for a better day.

Use the extra time to get ready for the next one:

โœ… Check your gear and replace anything worn
โœ… Charge your phone and backup power bank
โœ… Download offline maps
โœ… Review your route and prepare a trip plan to leave with a trusted friend or family member
โœ… Pack the essentials for the conditions you may encounter

AdventureSmart reminds us that a safe adventure starts before we reach the trailhead.

๐Ÿฅพ Trip planning
๐Ÿฅพ Training
๐Ÿฅพ Taking the essentials

Sometimes the best outdoor decision is staying home and preparing for the next adventure.

Blomidon, Bluff and Broad Cove will still be there when the weather improves. ๐Ÿฅพ๐ŸŒฒ

๐Ÿ˜ We are so incredibly fortunate to belong to a community that supports us in every way and in all that we do.

๐ŸŒŸ While we do have regular annual fixed fundraising events, we also rely heavily on community support in other ways.

โญ There are a variety of options should you choose to support us at Cape Breton Search and Rescue:

๐Ÿ˜Ž CBSAR is involved in a monthly Rafflebox draw which supports all search and rescue teams in Nova Scotia. We receive a portion of this draw and it helps to support our operations year-round.

๐Ÿ“ We also have a live Canada Helps link where you can donate to us.

๐ŸŒณ At CBSAR, we feel tremendously privileged to serve our communities. Every donation directly strengthens our ability to respond to a lost person emergency in Cape Breton and beyond.

Thank you for your continued support!

๐Ÿงก As a non-profit organization, CBSAR relies heavily on community support and fundraising.

๐Ÿ˜ Our annual online auction is our biggest fundraiser and supports our operations year round.

โญ When we reached out to Mike at Vango Signs & Designs, located right here in Sydney, he wanted the impact of his donation to reach further and to support us in a different way.

๐Ÿ˜Ž With incredible thanks to Mike and the team at Vango Signs & Designs, we have a new pop up sign that will accompany us at fundraisers and community outreach events for many years to come. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

It is support like this that strengthens our ability to respond to lost person emergencies in Cape Breton and beyond. ๐ŸŒณ

๐ŸŒŸ We are excited to take our new sign everywhere we go and we will be forever grateful to Mike for the support.

Our ๐ŸŒŸNEW ๐ŸŒŸ sign is pictured here at our AdventureSmart Survive Outside presentation last evening at the Cape Breton Regional Library.
