The River Forecast Centre has issued a High Streamflow Advisory for:

- the Skeena River, including the mainstem from Kitwanga downstream through Usk and Terrace

A High Streamflow Advisory means that river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly.

The Skeena River has been rising in response to increased snowmelt runoff. Elevated flows are expected to continue into the middle of the week, with the potential to see further rises at the Skeena River at Usk gauge.

Fast-flowing rivers pose increased risk to safety - stay away from rivers and river banks, which can be unstable. We will provide more updates as they become available - for more detailed info please visit: https://link.rdks.bc.ca/emergency

Thousands of census employees across the country are helping collect data that are vital to improving the lives of Canadians. These are your family, friends or neighbours making a difference for your community.

If you haven't completed your questionnaire yet and we follow up with you, here’s how to recognize official census communications:

📩 Reminder letters will be sent by mail or delivered in person, which will contain a secure access code to complete the census questionnaire online.

🪪 In person follow-ups will be conducted by employees with an identification card.

📱 Text message reminders may also be sent from the text message short code number 236732.

📞 If a follow-up phone call to a household is needed, the census employees will identify themselves clearly.

A reminder that rural property taxes are paid to the BC Government, and are due on July 2, 2026.
Unfortunately, the RDKS can't accept payments as the province handles the collecting and administering of property tax funds on our behalf.

The various options for how to pay your rural property taxes can be found on our website: https://link.rdks.bc.ca/property-tax

If you're driving down Hwy 16, check out the new sign at the Thornhill Agriculture Grounds! Just east of the Thornhill Fire Hall, the sign is on Thornhill Frontage Rd that runs parallel to Hwy 16.

The previous sign needed replacing, and JJs Woodart (pictured left with Chris K.) did an incredible job with the new sign and the detail on each animal. There's even a way to add event-specific signs behind the plexiglass! More thanks to Merv at Terra Bobcat and Doug at Westpoint Rentals for their help with the project.

Starting this Saturday! The Share Shed is a new pilot project at the Thornhill Transfer Station. Drop off or take items at no cost, and let's keep reusable items out of the landfill!

How it works:
➡️ If you've got unwanted items that are clean and in good, working condition, drop them at the Share Shed for someone else to enjoy.
➡️ Or stop by the Share Shed and see if there's anything that catches your eye!
➡️ The Share Shed will be open on Saturdays, Sunday, and Mondays at Thornhill Transfer Station.

For safety reasons, there are limitations on what we can accept at the Share Shed. Full details of what can and can't be accepted on our website: https://link.rdks.bc.ca/share_shed
