🌊 SURFACING NEW SKILLS! 🌊
This past weekend, members of The Pas Fire Department took part in specialized Surface Water Rescue training to sharpen our life-saving skills.

We were pleased to host instructors from the Manitoba Emergency Services College, who traveled up to deliver a comprehensive course covering both vital classroom theory and hands-on practical skill work directly in the Pasquia River. For some of our members this was the first time they have ever drove a boat!

Surrounded by so many lakes, rivers, and waterways in our region, maintaining strong water rescue capabilities is essential for our team. Training scenarios like this ensure our members are fully prepared to respond safely and effectively whenever the tri-community needs us.

Thank you to Pat and Richard for coming up, and a big shoutout to our dedicated members for spending their weekend training hard to keep The Pas and surrounding areas safe! 🚒💦

🚨Advanced Vehicle Extrication 🚨

Tonight, our crews were out on the training grounds putting in serious work on advanced vehicle extrication techniques.

During this evening’s scenario, members practiced and mastered a complex stabilization maneuver—lifting the entire front end of a rolled-over vehicle 90 degrees (vehicle taco). In critical rollover incidents, gaining immediate, safe access to patients while stabilizing a vehicle in a precarious position is essential. Exercises like this allow our personnel to refine their technical skills and adapt to high-stress, rapidly changing emergency scenes.

I want to personally commend our members for their continuous dedication to training and professional development. Their hard work ensures that The Pas Fire Department remains fully prepared to serve and protect our community when every second counts.

It's awesome how all the agencies worked together so well, leading to a really positive outcome for this incident!

On July 29, 2026, just before 3:00 pm, The Pas RCMP responded to a report of a female that had entered the water off the Bignell bridge.

This incident prompted a search by RCMP, Fire, EMS, Manitoba First Nation Police, and First Nation Safety Officers.

The female was later located safe.

The Pas RCMP thanks everyone for their tremendous effort during this incident.

Today, members from The Pas Fire Department made a visit to Riley’s memorial site. While there, those who knew him best spoke about the incredible person and firefighter he was—highlighting his unwavering dedication to not only the department but to wildfire as well and his natural ability to make everyone around him better.

Sharing these fond memories allowed our veteran members to reflect, while helping our newer members who didn't have the privilege of knowing him truly understand just how massive a part of our family he was, and exactly why we are committed to keeping his memory alive within our ranks.

Riley’s presence will continue to be felt on the front lines. For the next 81 days, his helmet will be riding shotgun in the officer’s seat with us to every single call and training session.
Never forgotten. 81 forever. 🚒❤️

Today, two members from The Pas Fire Department and two members from the Opaskwayak Cree Nation Fire Department left town, heading north to Lynn Lake to assist with the ongoing wildfire situation affecting their community.

When a neighboring community calls for help, our crews don't hesitate. We are incredibly proud of these four members for stepping up, answering the call, and showing true dedication to helping others in their time of need.

Please join us in wishing them a safe journey and a safe deployment. Stay safe out there, team! We’ve got your back at home. 🤝🌲🔥
