🚒 INCIDENT UPDATE: A Busy Weekend & Week for The Pas Fire Department 🚒
Our crews have been pushing hard over the last few days, responding to three major incidents in and around our community. Here is a breakdown of recent calls:

🔥 Saturday Morning: Structure Fire (South End)
First thing Saturday morning, crews were dispatched to a structure fire on the south end of town. Upon arrival, our firefighters encountered a heavy volume of fire venting from all front windows of the home.
Action Taken: Crews initiated an aggressive attack and successfully had the fire knocked down within 30 minutes of arriving on scene.
Mutual Aid: A big thank you to Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN) Fire Department for their assistance on scene, helping our team overhaul the structure and ensure all hot spots were completely extinguished. This fire is currently under investigation.

🌾 Sunday Afternoon: Large Grass Fire (Highway 283)
On Sunday afternoon, we were paged out to a fast-moving grass fire running along Highway 283. Arriving crews were faced with a fire front stretching roughly 2.5 kilometers long.
Action Taken: Due to the size and rapid spread, additional resources were immediately requested.
Mutual Aid: We want to extend our gratitude to the Manitoba Wildfire Service for responding to assist. Both of our agencies worked tirelessly side-by-side in demanding conditions until the fire was fully extinguished around 9:00 PM. This fire is currently under investigation.

🏢 Yesterday Afternoon: Commercial Roof Fire (Downtown)
Yesterday afternoon, crews were dispatched to a reported fire in the roof of a downtown business.
Action Taken: Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a commercial rooftop HVAC unit had caught fire. Thanks to a quick response and deployment, crews managed to contain the fire entirely to the unit itself.
The Damage: Damage to the building was successfully limited to the rooftop unit, with only minor water damage reported inside the structure.

🤝 Thank You!
We would like to deeply thank our partners— Opaskwayak Cree Nation Fire Department, Manitoba Wildfire Service, The Pas RCMP —for their invaluable support this weekend. When the community calls, teamwork gets the job done.

Today, May 1, we recognize National First Responders Day across Canada. It is a day to pause and express our deepest gratitude to the men and women who serve on the front lines, ensuring the safety and well-being of our community 24/7, 365 days a year.

At The Pas Fire Department, we are proud to stand alongside our brothers and sisters with the The Pas RCMP, Emergency Medical Services, Manitoba First Nations Police, Town of The Pas Community Safety Officers, and our partners at the Opaskwayak Cree Nation Fire Department and Manitoba Wildfire Service.

Being a first responder is more than a job—it’s a commitment to run toward the situations most people run away from. Whether it's a structural fire, a medical emergency, or a wildfire in the interface, our team is ready to answer the call with professionalism and bravery.

How You Can Help
You don't need a uniform to support public safety. Today, consider:

📢 Public Service Announcement: Siren Testing
The Pas Fire Department will be conducting a routine test of the emergency siren this coming Wednesday, April 29, at 11:30 AM.

These tests are essential to ensure our community notification systems are fully operational and that the equipment is functioning correctly. When you hear the siren at this time, please remember:
No action is required. This is only a test.

Do not call 911 or emergency services regarding the siren during this window, as we need to keep those lines clear for actual emergencies.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep our community safe! 🚒🚨

⚠️ WINTER STORM ALERT: The Pas and Surrounding Area ⚠️

Environment Canada has issued weather alerts for our region. We are expecting a significant spring storm starting tonight, Wednesday, April 22, bringing a messy mix of freezing rain and heavy snow through Friday. With freezing rain totals of 5–10 mm followed by significant snowfall and wind gusts up to 50 km/h, conditions will be hazardous. The Pas Fire Department wants to ensure everyone stays safe and prepared.

🚗 Travel & Road Safety
Stay Home if Possible: If you don't need to be on the roads, please stay off them. Freezing rain will create "black ice" conditions that are extremely difficult to navigate.

Check Road Conditions: Before heading out, check Manitoba 511 for the latest highway closures and conditions.

Emergency Kit: If you must travel, ensure your vehicle has a winter emergency kit: blankets, extra warm clothing, a shovel, booster cables, and a flashlight.

Slow Down: Give yourself extra time and space. Remember, four-wheel drive does not help you stop on ice.

💡 If the Power Goes Out
With heavy ice build-up and wind, utility outages can happen.

Stay Warm Safely: * Keep doors and windows closed to trap heat.

NEVER use a charcoal grill, camp stove, or generator inside your home or garage. Carbon monoxide is a silent, odorless killer.

Keep everyone in one room to maintain body heat.

Food Safety: Keep your fridge and freezer doors closed. An unopened fridge keeps food cold for about 4 hours; a full freezer for 48 hours.

Unplug Electronics: Unplug sensitive equipment (TVs, computers) to protect them from surges when power is restored.

Please check on your neighbors, especially seniors or those living alone. Stay safe, stay warm, and let’s look out for one another.

Celebrating Excellence: The Pas Fire Association Annual Ball 🚒

What an incredible evening! This past Saturday, members of The Pas Fire Department, along with their families and distinguished guests, gathered for our Annual Ball. It was a night of reflection, camaraderie, and, most importantly, honoring the dedication of our members as well as their families.
We are thrilled to share several key highlights and awards from the evening:

🏆 Award Presentations

Firefighter of the Year: FF Karen Gallagher
Karen was recognized for her exceptional commitment to the department. While her work on the fireground is invaluable, this award specifically highlights the massive amount of work she does outside of calls and regular training to keep our department running smoothly. Congratulations, Karen!

Riley Manych Memorial Award: Lt Jayden Foster

This prestigious award is presented to a member who exemplifies the traits and spirit that Riley brought to our department. We are proud to announce Jayden Foster as this year's recipient for his character, dedication, and heart.

🛡️ Promotions & Milestones
The "Yellow Helmet" represents a significant step in a firefighter's journey, marking the transition to becoming a fully realized member of the front-line team. We were honored to present new yellow helmets to:
FF Dan Jabs
FF Tyler Fourre
FF Kristen Fader

Events like these remind us of the strong bond within our fire service family and the community we serve. Thank you to everyone who organized the evening, and to our families for the unwavering support you provide while we serve the Town of The Pas and the surrounding region.

🚒 Weekly Incident Summary: April 5 – April 12
The Pas Fire Department had a busy week responding to a variety of different calls. Our crews remain committed to the safety of the Tri-Community. Here is a summary of our activity from this past week another post will be coming soon regarding our annual ball!

Incident Highlights
Structure Fires (2):

Clearwater Lake: Members responded to a structure fire in the Clearwater Lake area on April 8th. Mutual aid with Opaskwayak Cree Nation Fire Department and efficient water operations were utilized to manage the scene.

Town Limits: Crews also attended a garage fire within the town limits on April 12th. Quick intervention helped contain the blaze and prevent further spread to neighboring properties.

Landfill Fire:

Our team responded to a fire at the local landfill. These incidents require significant time and resources to ensure deep-seated hotspots are fully extinguished.

iPhone Crash Notification:

Crews were dispatched following an automated iPhone Crash Detection alert. We remind residents that these features are incredibly helpful for locating incidents when victims may be unable to call for help. User should understand how this system works and please answer the phone if your phone takes a hard drop or jolt to help prevent emergency services from attending when they are not needed.

A Message to the Community
We want to thank our dedicated volunteer members who stepped away from their families and jobs this week to respond to these calls.
