It was a fruitful trip up to Gods Lake Narrows yesterday.

Keewatin Tribal Council and SKY Nations Grand Chief Wastesicoot paid a visit to the First Nation to connect with Chief and Council and attend their local 2nd Annual Recovery Conference.

The 2nd Annual Recovery Conference featured many meaningful discussions for those working hard in their recovery journeys. We commend all the recovery support work being done in the community for those who need it.

Meetings with the new Chief and Council included informative discussions on Free, Prior, and Informed Consent implementation and upcoming SKY Nations updates.

On that, we extend our congratulations to the newly elected Chief, Brenda Watt, alongside Councillors Wayne Okemow, Gary Trout, Stanley Duck, Phillip Kanabee, Amanda Nasee, and Iona Okimow.

It was an interesting trip, and we're thankful for your hospitality and warm welcome into your Nation. We wish you all success throughout your term and look forward to supporting you as you serve your community.

We’re honoured to recognize Chief Betsy Kennedy for 20 years of service and leadership in War Lake First Nation!

Keewatin Tribal Council and SKY Nations Grand Chief Wastesicoot visited the First Nation, along with AMC Grand Chief Wilson and MKO Grand Chief Settee, to celebrate the inauguration.

Their visit started with a community tour learning about their ongoing initiatives and a stop at the band office. They were then greeted by community members at their beautiful lodge, where the ceremony took place.

Following the opening prayer, grand entry, and drum song, Chief Kennedy was sworn in during a meaningful ceremony. The Grand Chiefs then took time to offer congratulations and recognition, along with meaningful gifts to honour Chief Kennedy’s hard work and dedication to her Nation over the past 20 years. The Nation gifted thoughtful plaques to recognize their Chief and beautiful star blankets to Chief Kennedy and each Grand Chief. The event concluded with a delicious meal together with community members.

Congratulations, Chief Kennedy, on your 20 years of dedication to your community, and we recognize your strength, advocacy and grace. We appreciate the hospitality and warm welcome during our visit to your beautiful Nation. Keewatin Tribal Council and SKY Nations wish you continued success and are proud to stand alongside you and your members.
