Today the TCES 1010 Level 1 Firefighter class, led by Chief Poulin, sacrificed their Sunday to undergo practical training on fire hoses, hose streams and hose operations. Students learned about different types of fire hoses, various methods of decking and deploying hose, hose management and hydrant operations among many other skills. Throughout the course of the day the class was successfully evaluated on 29 different skills, all of which are critical on the fireground.

Today was only one out of the 10 practical evaluation days students must successfully complete prior to becoming eligible to write the NFPA 1010 Level 1 Firefighter practical and theory exams. Great job to all who participated, hopefully the weather will be more cooperative for the next one!

Thank you to the Lions Club of Radway for your generous hospitality and continued support of our members.

We are truly grateful for the 3rd Annual First Responders Appreciation Dinner and for the recognition of the dedication and commitment of our volunteers. Your kind words mean a great deal to our members and their families.

It was an honour to spend the evening with the Lions Club of Radway who share the common goal of serving and strengthening our communities.

This week, TCES members took the opportunity to catch up on station duties, including the maintenance and inspection of apparatus and equipment. Staying on top of these responsibilities is essential to ensuring nothing has been overlooked and that everything remains in a constant state of readiness for the next call.

Did you know that many TCES members are certified in ice rescue?

While we don't have any training photos to share this week, here are some throwback photos to our 2024 Ice Rescue certification course. This course has been a favourite among our firefighters, and refresher training is always something members look forward to.

Now that we've entered our all-too-short summer season, ice rescue may not be the first thing on our minds. However, with Long Lake and other bodies of water located within our response area, having personnel trained and equipped to respond to ice-related emergencies helps ensure we are prepared for the unique hazards associated with living, working, and playing around water.

TCES had a busy end of the week and weekend with the arrival of our new Wildland Unit (which has already gone out on its first call!) and several emergency responses, including a vehicle fire, a mutual aid request from our neighbours in Athabasca, an EMS mutual aid request, and a motor vehicle collision. TCES members did not have much downtime this weekend!

At our Thursday training night we also had the opportunity to meet the owner of AJAX Equipment , who brought out two ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting) units for a demonstration. Members were able to see these specialized apparatus in action, learn about their capabilities, and explore the possibility of inter-operability with TCES units.
