I am glad pleased to announce on behalf of the Thornton District Lions Club that our former long time favourite fund raiser the Good Friday Pancake and Sausage breakfast is finally a go for 2023. As many of you of the many regulars know we have not been able to provide it due to the pandemic issues. Please mark this on your calendar. This year we will be holding the breakfast for the first time at the Ivy Orange Hall (Ivy Community Hall) on Friday, April 7th starting at 8:00 AM. More information to follow as we get closer to the date.

I am happy to announce that the Thornton District Lions Club will be again selling Christmas trees at our usual location at the Thornton Plaza. Due to rising costs and availability from our supplier, we have had to raise our price to $50 per tree this year. As per our normal practice a generous donation is now on the way in advance to the Thornton Food Bank. Sales will begin on Friday, November 26th in the afternoon.

This is a copy of a post that I made on our Village page which is currently set as Private for members only. We have received dozens of likes and many comments thanking the Club for what we did within minutes.

Good morning Thornton neighbours. Some of you may have seen the park bench at the trail crossing on Robert Street but did you know that the Thornton Lions Club made them possible and had three of them installed with the consent and assistance of the Township of Essa. Unless you are a user of the trail you would not be aware that we had them installed at the Robert St, crossing as well as along the trail south of Innisfil Beach Road and just off the 11th Con. crossing south of the village.

Well it was that time again. We did our semi-annual roadside debris pickup on the 20th S/R from County Road 27 to Ivy. Many thanks to the Community Service volunteer help from four great students from Bear Creek Secondary School. Much appreciated. We filled a pickup truck again and I just shake my head at all those inconsiderate drivers who think it is OK to throw their garbage out their windows while driving.

I am pleased to advise that the Thornton District Lions Club will again be selling Christmas Trees at our usual location across from Tim's in the plaza. Trees will be available starting on Saturday morning November 28th. This has been one of the Club's oldest and most successful fund raisers for the Community. The tress will range from $30 to $45 depending on size and historically the largest seem to always go fast. Come early for the best selections of Scotch Pines and Balsam and Fraser Firs and support your local Lions. A reminder that we will be asking our friends to be sure to wear your masks and gloves and maintain social distancing.
