The Battle of Beaverdams Splash Pad is officially open 💦

This morning, Mayor Ugulini, Members of Council and local families gathered for the ribbon cutting at the new Battle of Beaverdams Park Splash Pad. The excitement was contagious as children were the first to jump in and enjoy the new ocean-themed water features. 🐬

And the fun continues tomorrow! Pack the bathing suits and join us at the Thorold Community Market Grand Finale from 12–4 p.m.

Notice of Project Commencement : Pamela Drive Watermain Replacement 🚰

Please be advised that the City’s retained contractor, Demar Construction, will be starting the Pamela Drive Watermain Replacement Project between Lawrence Drive and Sullivan Avenue in the coming weeks.

As part of this construction work, Pre-Con Inspection Services Inc. will first need to complete a pre-construction survey and inspection of residents’ properties to document the current condition of homes before construction begins.

Inspectors will be going door-to-door and will need access to the basement, interior foundation and windows to take photographs of the existing conditions. Inspectors will have valid identification with them.

Residents are encouraged to allow the inspection to be completed. If a resident declines the inspection, the ability to substantiate a claim for damage resulting from the construction may be affected. If the inspection is completed and damage is subsequently identified as a result of the construction, the contractor will be responsible for addressing the damage at no cost to the resident.

Attention ‼️Below is an important safety message from Niagara Region before students head back to school next week 👇

Students across Niagara head back to class on Tuesday, Sept. 8, which means more feet, wheels and cars sharing the road. Here's what we've been working on to help keep everyone safe.

Near schools:
✅ Flashing beacons at school zone signs (7 a.m. – 5 p.m. on school days)
✅ Freshly painted "school ahead" markings on the road
✅ Pop-up bollards near schools to help slow traffic down

Across Niagara:
✅ Leading pedestrian intervals installed at 15 signalized intersections — these give people a head start to enter the crosswalk before drivers get a green light, making them more visible and reducing conflicts with turning vehicles

Remember: posted speed limits apply all day, not just when the beacons are flashing.

More upgrades are on the way in 2027. These changes, plus safe choices from all of us on the road, are part of our Road Safety Strategy to make Niagara safer for everyone.

Attention‼️Flood Alert from Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority below 👇

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority has issued a Flood Outlook Statement for the Niagara Peninsula Watershed.

This notice is intended to advise the public and local municipalities of the status of watercourse and Great Lakes conditions within the Niagara Peninsula and the eastern portions of the City of Hamilton and Haldimand County.

Unsettled weather and the risk of severe thunderstorms is expected for this afternoon and into Thursday morning. Forecasted rainfall amounts of 10 - 40 mm is expected across the watershed. Isolated thunderstorms may produce an additional 25 to 50 mm in localized areas, with total rainfall amounts potentially exceeding 85 to 90 mm in some locations.

While the NPCA does not anticipate major flooding along larger watercourses, flash flooding along small and urbanized watercourses, rapid increase in water levels and localized flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas may occur. Current water levels are below critical elevations.

The NPCA will continue to monitor conditions closely and issue updates as required. Current flood status information is available at:

Property owners are encouraged to safely ensure that drainage features-such as culverts, catch basins, and ditches-are free of debris
Municipal and Regional staff are advised to inspect stormwater infrastructure and monitor known flood-prone areas

Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain this afternoon into this evening.

• Damaging winds with gusts more than 110 km/h possible.
• Quarter to ping pong ball size hail.
• Torrential downpours may bring local rainfall amounts of up to 50 mm.
• Risk of a tornado.
• Utility outages are possible.
