Three Hills RCMP Vehicle Protection Program

You may notice a report card left on your windshield - this is part of our proactive approach to preventing vehicle break-ins in our communities.

Our officers check parked vehicles for items left in plain view and issue a simple rating:

✅PASS - No valuables visible and all doors and windows secure.
❎FAIL - Items were visible. This increases the risk of theft.

Vehicle break-ins are often preventable. Thieves look for easy opportunities - and visible items can be enough to make your vehicle a target.

Before you leave your vehicle, take a moment to:

- Remove or hide valuables
- Lock all doors
- Double-check your surroundings

A quick check can make all the difference.

Three Hills RCMP are reporting that travel is not recommended, However, with deteriorating road conditions in many parts of the province, RCMP are reminding motorists everywhere to drive safe.

Driving in extreme snow isn’t just inconvenient, it’s dangerous. Slow down, leave more space than you think you need, and don’t assume your vehicle can handle it. If you don’t have to be on the road, don’t be.

"Thank you residents of Three Hills and all the communities policed by the Three Hills RCMP for allowing me to serve. It has been a great honour". ~ S/Sgt. Jamie Day

Sgt. Jamie Day recently promoted to Olds RCMP Detachment Staff Sergeant (Detachment Commander)

Over the course of his career, S/Sgt. Day has been committed to the following:

• A commitment to front-line policing, ensuring the safety and well-being of communities under his purview.
• Leadership beyond the badge: mentoring members, cultivating a positive detachment culture, and connecting with the public through meaningful outreach.
• A service mindset rooted in partnership and collaboration with community stakeholders, local businesses and agencies to build trust, enhance visibility and drive collective outcomes.
• Strong communication and visibility in public forums: he uses social media platforms to share reflections, highlight member achievements, mark key events of the detachment and publicly reinforce the values of service, integrity and community engagement.

S/Sgt. Day’s approach aligns with the philosophy that policing is not just about enforcement but about being an integral, visible, caring part of the community. His leadership style emphasises “leading from the front”, creating an environment where team resilience, mutual support and visible presence underpin service excellence.

In summary: S/Sgt. Jamie Day exemplifies modern policing leadership, a balance of operational credibility, community connection and team-centric culture. His career path and public-facing presence suggest he is well positioned for roles of increasing responsibility, where the blend of strategic vision and grounded community engagement will serve him and his detachment well.

Three Hills RCMP reminding motorists about new online collision reporting option as winter weather approaches.

As colder weather and winter driving conditions set in across Alberta, the Three Hills RCMP is reminding drivers to take extra care on the roads and to be aware of a new way to report certain vehicle collisions online.

The Government of Alberta recently introduced Report My Collision, an online tool that allows eligible drivers to submit information about minor, property-damage collisions without attending a police detachment or collision reporting centre. This service is intended to make the reporting process easier and faster for drivers while helping police focus on more serious incidents.

To use the online system, drivers must have a valid Alberta driver’s licence, an Alberta.ca account, and the collision must have taken place within Alberta. Only passenger vehicles are currently eligible, while collisions involving commercially registered vehicles still require in-person reporting.

Drivers can use Report My Collision for certain single-vehicle incidents, including:

• When a vehicle strikes an animal;
• When a vehicle hits an object such as a post or fence, but not another vehicle;
• When a vehicle slides off the road; or
• When a parked vehicle is damaged in a hit and run and there are no witnesses or supporting evidence.

Any collision involving injuries, fatalities, multiple drivers, or identifiable suspect information must still be reported in person at the nearest police detachment.

For more details or to start a report, visit report-my-collision.alberta.ca.

The Olds RCMP would also like to remind drivers of some important steps to follow if you are involved in a collision this winter season:

• Check that everyone is safe and call 911 if anyone is injured or if a driver appears impaired.
• If possible and safe, move vehicles off the roadway to avoid blocking traffic or causing additional collisions.
• Turn on hazard lights and place cones or warning triangles to alert other motorists.
• Do not stand between or behind vehicles, especially on slippery roads.
• Take photos of the damage and the scene, as these are required when filing a report online.
• Exchange driver and insurance information and take reasonable steps to prevent further vehicle damage while waiting on scene.
