Utility rates for residents will increase on July 1, 2026, per Bylaw 1506-26 - Master Rates, Fees & Charges Bylaw, which was passed at the April 27, 2026, Regular Council Meeting.

The changes to the utility rates for water, sewer, and solid waste have increased to cover utility operating costs, as well as current and future capital costs. Residents may notice increased activity around the Three Hills Community Centre on June 2–3 as regional emergency personnel participate in a KREMA emergency management training exercise.

No public action is required. Thank you for your patience as communities work together to strengthen emergency preparedness.

Regional Emergency Management Exercise Planned in Three Hills June 2–3

Residents may notice increased traffic and activity around the Three Hills Community Centre on June 2 and 3 as emergency personnel from across the region take part in a large-scale emergency management training exercise.

The functional exercise is being hosted by the KREMA (Kneehill Regional Emergency Management Agency), a regional partnership made up of representatives from Kneehill County, the Town of Three Hills, the Town of Trochu, the Village of Acme, the Village of Linden, and the Village of Carbon.

The exercise is designed to test and strengthen regional emergency response coordination, communication, and decision-making in a simulated emergency scenario. Participants will include municipal staff, emergency management personnel, and partner agencies working together in a realistic training environment.

In rural communities, municipalities often rely on one another during emergencies through mutual aid agreements and shared regional resources. Exercises like this help ensure communities can respond together quickly and effectively when local emergencies exceed the capacity of a single municipality.

Funding for the exercise was provided through the Alberta Emergency Management Preparedness Program (EMPP) grant, along with contributions from each partner municipality.

“Training exercises like this are an important part of emergency preparedness,” said Debra Neitz, Kneehill County’s Director of Emergency Management. “They allow KREMA team members to practice working together, identify opportunities for improvement, and strengthen our ability to respond effectively during real emergencies.”

While no public action is required, residents may notice additional vehicles, personnel, and emergency management activity in and around the Three Hills Community Centre throughout the exercise.
