🚧 Road Construction Notice – AB Transportation HWY Project 🚧

Please be advised that construction work will be taking place on Alberta Transportation highways in the area:

Project Locations:
• Highway 27: from Highway 21 to Highway 836 (approx. 12 km)
• Highway 837: from Highway 838 to Highway 27 (approx. 14 km)

Construction Schedule:
• Start Date: June 15, 2026
• End Date: August 15, 2026
• Work will take place during daytime hours.

What to Expect:
• Speed reductions (80 km/h in work zones, 50 km/h when workers are present)
• Flag persons controlling traffic at times
• One-lane traffic, lane closures, and minor delays (under 30 minutes)
• Construction activities, including milling, paving, and resurfacing

There are no width or weight restrictions expected, but motorists should be prepared for changing road conditions and follow all posted signage.

🚧 Torrington Infrastructure Project

Beginning approximately June 22, Kneehill County will be undertaking sanitary sewer rehabilitation and related road reconstruction on a portion of 1st Avenue in Torrington, as shown on the map below.

This project is being completed primarily to rehabilitate aging sewer infrastructure beneath the roadway. Road, curb, and gutter improvements will also be completed as part of the work.

Residents can expect temporary road closures, lane restrictions, and parking impacts throughout construction. Every effort will be made to maintain access where possible; however, temporary disruptions may occur as work progresses.

Construction is expected to continue through September, weather permitting.

Strychnine Update 2: Strychnine Distribution Program

June 16, 2026: Agricultural producers can now apply for access to emergency-use strychnine for gopher control.

Due to limited product availability and expected shipment delays, the initial supply of strychnine will be distributed via a lottery.

Successful applicants will be eligible to purchase up to six bottles.

First Lottery Draw – June 25, 2026
To be entered into the lottery, applicants must complete all of the following requirements:

-Complete the Applicator Strychnine Stewardship Training through SARM (Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities)

-Submit the online Kneehill County application form.

Provide:
-A copy of your training certificate.
-Proof of commercial agricultural producer status.
-The legal land descriptions of infestation and intended treatment locations.

Lottery Draw
The first lottery draw will take place on June 25, 2026.

Once Agricultural Services staff have verified all required documentation and confirmed eligibility, the applicant's name will be entered into the lottery draw.

Successful applicants will be contacted following the June 25 draw and scheduled for product pickup the following week.

Applicants who are not selected will remain eligible for future draws as additional product becomes available.

WATER NOTICE: BULK WATER STATIONS

June 16, 2026

Due to recent increased water demand at County bulk stations, there may be times when the stations are temporarily inoperable.

This is caused by low water levels in the reservoir.

When levels drop too low, the bulk water stations automatically shut down to allow the reservoir to recover to normal operating levels. Recovery can take several hours, depending on factors such as inlet flow rates and ongoing demand from the rural water distribution system that also relies on this reservoir.
