Active Transportation Thunder Bay

Active Transportation Thunder Bay Active Transportation is getting from point 'A' to 'B' using human power. This can be a trip to work, to the store, getting out for some fresh air, etc.

It's about using our bodies to move around, which helps us be fit, saves money and keep emissions low.

More carbon neutral transportation options are becoming popular as you've probably noticed an increasing number of electric vehicles on the road. BUT - the original carbon neutral transportation will always be Active Transportation! Community Spokes will be hosting a Family Bike Swap at this event, so if you or your family need to change it up or you have kids who need a bike come on by! E-Bikes (with actual pedals you pedal) will also be on display.

THIS SATURDAY! Join us for the third annual Thunder Bay Electric Vehicle Show on Saturday, September 23 11-3 at the CLE Coliseum Building. This show is presented by Synergy North in partnership with the Electric Vehicle Association of Northern Ontario (EVANO).

Check out 2 and 4 wheel EV with their owners and see Community Spokes for their bike swap.

The City of Thunder Bay bike lanes are typically opened on May 1st but due to the late snowfall and potential for more to come the official opening will be delayed. Please stay tuned for an update about the official opening once sweeping activities are completed.

Today is the day the bike lanes "close" until April 30. If you're out and about walking or riding please remember to wear reflective clothing and use your hand signals! Being visible and predictable go a long way to improving safe active transportation outcomes. Also remember most of the Multi-Use Trails are winter maintained. Happy AT journeys!

Join us on Saturday, Sept. 24, and learn all about electric cars and bicycles, vehicle charging, active transportation, safe cycling and more! Listen and talk with electric vehicle owners from Thunder Bay for a true Northern perspective.

This is a free event taking place from 11 am - 3 pm, at the CLE Coliseum Building.

Bring your own bike and trade it! Hosted by Community Spokes.

Traditionally May 1st is the day where the bike lanes are officially open as street cleaning takes place and the lanes are cleared of all the winter debris. This year the official opening will be delayed due to the weather conditions we have been experiencing. The City will continue to monitor and get cleaning activities going when conditions allow it and will also provide a media update. In the mean time, keep enjoying your activities!

With the days getting longer and the weather getting warmer, it could be a great time to get out and explore areas close to home! Just remember the spring can have some big swings in temperature, especially when we have warm spells. So be mindful where you step or wheel as you get out and get some fresh air!
