I am happy to have been witness to today’s grand opening of the Neebing Decontamination Centre. This was a monumental step forward for the health and safety of the members of the volunteer fire department. Congratulations to all!

My grandson was pretty excited to receive my pamphlet in his mailbox this week! The funny thing is...he lives in South Gillies! For the good folks out in Pearson/Pardee/Scoble who get their mail delivered out of the Green Acres Post Office, you may not have received my pamphlet. I am attaching it to this post for anyone who wants to have a look!

It was a privilege to speak with so many residents yesterday while out knocking on doors with my daughter. I met some residents who have called Neebing home for more than 50 years and some new residents who have recently moved here. Some live here permanently while others enjoy Neebing seasonally. Everyone spoke very highly of Neebing and how much they enjoy it here. I did hear some concerns about the current condition of the roads, frustration with the new landfill hours, and inconsistency with severance approvals. One resident asked about the property standards bylaw (PSB) and, if I was Mayor, what I would do if it comes back to Council. My response was, IF the PSB comes forward again, it is my opinion that administration will need to do a lot of public consultation to seek feedback on the draft bylaw. This could be conducted over a 6 to 12 month period using a number of consultation methods (online and paper surveys; open houses; and webinars with professional expertise on PSB). The comments would be reviewed by Council and discussed in an open Council meeting to provide further direction to staff on next steps. The next steps may include editing the draft PSB based on public feedback and bringing the revised draft PSB back to Council for review and consideration. Council does not have to approve a PSB but they do have to follow a process on how to consider matters that come before Council, regardless of how easy or difficult the subject matter is.

If I am elected Mayor, you can be assured that I will bring integrity, transparency, honesty and fairness in all my actions and interactions as an elected official.

I will be out knocking on doors over the next few days and weeks…I hope to speak to you soon!

I have been asked, What does Council do?

Council is elected to govern the municipality; staff are hired to administer the daily operations of the municipality. Council sets the direction and establishes policies to guide the corporation and determine what services the municipality will offer its residents; staff administer the policies and services to operate an effective and efficient organization.

Council ensures the accountability and transparency of the operations and financial integrity of the municipality.

Council is elected to represent its citizens and make decisions that best represent their constituants by balancing what is in the best interests of the municipality.

Council also has a number of Committees to assist them with the many areas of responsibility of the municipality. Some examples are:
- Roads Committee
- Recreation Committee
- Economic Development Committee
- Senior’s Housing Committee

Council attends several regional, provincial and federal conferences throughout the year to learn about new programs, meet with Ministers and staff from higher levels of government.

While balancing all of these duties, members of Council also have to keep their thumb on the pulse of the community to ensure voices are heard, issues are addressed, and the municipality remains an affordable place to live.

Election day is October 26th…it’s time to consider the best candidates to represent Neebing for the 2026 - 2030 term.
