Built along the Kaministiquia River, the Westfort Village got its start as a well-suited host for the Canadian Pacific Rail and many grain elevators. As Fort William and later Thunder Bay continued to grow, a close-knit community in the Westfort area remained. It is well known and loved for its iconic restaurants, shops, parks, and baseball.

Check out this photo of South Brown Street from 1885, before Westfort was called Westfort!

Celebrate the neighbourhood at the Westfort Village Association Street Fair this weekend on August 15 and 16. To see more images of Westfort throughout the years, visit https://www.flickr.com/photos/thunderbayarchives/albums/

Want to watch your boulevard garden come alive? Plant Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca)! Once established, this native plant is well adapted to the dry, sunny conditions common in boulevard gardens. Better yet, it's the only plant where Monarch butterflies lay their eggs, and the only food their caterpillars can eat. Add it to your garden to help create a welcoming waystation for Monarchs ๐Ÿฆ‹

Learn more about how to start your boulevard garden at www.thunderbay.ca/boulevardgarden.
