We live in communities; work with our peers; are involved with carious activities; and share our lives with our friends and families. Community Living Tillsonburg is a non-profit organization that works with people with intellectual disabilities, ensuring they are included in their community and enjoy active and productive lives. Tillsonburg Distrcit Association for Retarded Children was orignally formed in 1955. At that time the association operated a school for developmentally disable children and promoted public awareness. Our name changed in 1970 to Tillsonburg and Distrcit Asscociation for the Mentally Retarded and expanded our services to include residantal and vocational programs.
1998 marked a third name change to Tillsonburg and District Association for Community Living. For individuals today, community living is more then being care for in a commuity based setting. Community living means being a valued member of a neighbourhood, being with family and friends and neighbours, earning a living or taking part in meaningful activites of daily living. Offically named Community Living Tillsonburg in 2000, our agniceines focus have moved towards more individualise appraoches to service delvery, emproweing and supporting indivudals to make inforemd choices from a range of options. Jim had a great day in Toronto! Lunch at Gabby's Bar and Grill, then to the Princess of the Wales Theatre to see Mamma Mia! filled with all the ABBA tunes he loves! He's hopeful he can go back again next year to see another play!
