Always great getting on the ice just before it disappears. Always remembering that young people can walk a lot further on soft ice than rescuers can. Practice moving through soft and broken ice can save valuable time. Be prepared just in case

A multi-day heat event begins today.

Maximum temperatures:
High twenties to low thirties.

Minimum temperatures:
High teens to low twenties.

Humidex:
High thirties to low forties.

Timing:
Today through Thursday.

Discussion:
Areas near the lakes could be slightly cooler than regions further inland.

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using .

Members of our rescue team practicing cold water rescue in Lake Lisgar. As we all know darkness is coming earlier everyday so we train in the environment we are given. Great job by everyone as they did safety checks on all our equipment and PPE, checked all our lights and rigging and completed all scenarios with professionalism. Great night of training

“So, what is pride? You can’t understand it from the outside looking in, and you can’t explain it from the inside looking out. Pride is a personal commitment. It is an attitude that separates excellence from mediocrity. It is that ingredient which inspires us not to get ahead of others but rather to get ahead of ourselves.”
