Join the Conversation on Dementia Home Care – August 27, 2026 at 7 pm

Our community partner, Rotary Club of Timmins-Porcupine is hosting an important community conversation on dementia home care featuring a screening of the powerful documentary No More Silent Battles.

Following the film, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with Dr. Jenny Ingram, a Geriatric Medicine Specialist offering valuable insights and an opportunity to ask questions about dementia care and supporting loved ones at home.

With Dr. Arnold’s leadership, we are proud to be the first hospital in Ontario to partner with Unity Health on this important ASIST-TBI study, helping test an innovative AI tool in the Emergency Department.

Sous la direction du Dr Arnold, nous sommes fiers d'être le premier hôpital de l'Ontario à s'associer à Unity Health dans le cadre de cette importante étude ASIST-TBI, qui vise à tester un outil innovant basé sur l'intelligence artificielle au sein du service des urgences.

Unity Health Toronto and and District Hospital/L'Hôpital de Timmins et du district will begin testing an artificial intelligence (AI) tool called ASIST-TBI at the Timmins, Ontario hospital. Originated at Unity Health’s St. Michael’s Hospital, ASIST-TBI predicts when patients who have a traumatic brain injury (TBI) are going to need neurosurgery to help prioritize urgent cases.

Timmins and District Hospital is the first hospital to enrol in a study that aims to test and validate ASIST-TBI at 18 Ontario hospitals, with the goal of making the AI tool available to emergency physicians in real-time. The successful adoption of the AI tool could help to manage and conserve two critical resources throughout Ontario: emergency transport and neurosurgical expertise.

Today, our team had the privilege of celebrating a very special milestone as patient Peggy Atkinson turned 100 years old.

To make the occasion even more memorable, staff surprised her with a beautiful outfit and a “Birthday Queen” sash fit for this incredible celebration.

Peggy also received a special certificate of recognition from Timmins Mayor Michelle Boileau honouring her remarkable milestone.

Aujourd’hui, notre équipe a eu le privilège de souligner un moment très spécial alors que l’une de nos patientes Peggy Atkinson a célébré son 100e anniversaire.

Pour rendre cette journée encore plus mémorable, les membres du personnel lui ont offert une magnifique tenue ainsi qu’une écharpe de « Reine du jour », digne de cette grande occasion.

Peggy a également reçu un certificat de reconnaissance remis par la mairesse de Timmins Michelle Boileau soulignant cette étape remarquable.

A big thank you to the Ontario Hospital Association Health News team for highlighting our new paediatric cardiac imaging service — an important step in improving access to timely assessments, supporting clinicians, and reducing the need for families to travel outside the region for care.

The 8th Annual Festa Italiana at the Porcupine Dante Club is officially underway!

The volunteers have been hard at work, making 2,000 homemade meatballs and 111 lasagnas yesterday, and today they're busy preparing sausage, porchetta, and tiramisu for the weekend festivities.

The City of Timmins was proud to join members of the Porcupine Dante Club for a flag raising and proclamation, with Mayor Michelle Boileau officially declaring July 17 to July 19 as Festa Italiana Days in Timmins in front of the Club's beautifully renovated building.

Be sure to check out the Porchetta Bingo, with all proceeds supporting the Rick Young Centre.

Come celebrate Italian culture with incredible food, entertainment, family fun, and community spirit. Buon appetito!
