At Tisdale Elementary, we’re always looking for different ways to bring learning outdoors and connect students to the land. Some of the best learning moments are the ones we don’t plan—and we always welcome those little surprises that turn into incredible hands-on experiences!
This week, a group of students working hard to care for our outdoor learning space made an exciting discovery…a special little friend! They were beyond excited and immediately started thinking about how they could protect it and make it feel welcome at our school.
It quickly turned into a meaningful learning moment, with students asking questions, sharing ideas, and working together to figure out what their new visitor might need. Later, we learned that a caring mom helped relocate it to a safe habitat where it can thrive and be well looked after.
The excitement didn’t stop there—some students headed right back to the classroom to begin researching what it was, where it lives, and what it needs to survive. Real curiosity, real questions, and real learning in action!
Moments like this remind us how special outdoor learning can be. Who knows what we’ll discover next? 🌿
