Watching the news and I see this and for the first time it hit me that uncle Louis March to is not here to intervene... I spoke at his memorial in the park after the march and I challenged ALL of us to step up and collectively honour his legacy by making sure the community knows that the spirit of the lion is still guarding our village... I am planning a zoom meeting with as many people as possible who worked in this space to see how we can fill the void.

on July 9th. Chloe Cooley, who was enslaved in Upper Canada, and her struggles against her enslaver, motivated a law being passed called the Act to Limit Slavery in Upper Canada On July 9th, 1793

Visit instagram.com/emancipationmonth on July 9th at 7pm for an exclusive interview with actress Olivia Barrett who portrayed Chloe Cooley in the Historica Canada Heritage Minutes TV episode produced by OYA Media Group and end narration was done by the Hon Jean Augustine

This was aimed at ending the sale of slaves by Canadians to Americans. The act also liberated slaves entering Upper Canada from the US, but did not free existing adult slaves already in residence.

The legislation came 40 years before the Slavery Abolition Act, which later outlawed slavery in most of the British Empire.

The Act was the first legislation in the British colonies
to restrict the slave trade.
