It’s week! Spirit Halloween stores across North America support local children’s hospitals with a mission to make hospital stays less scary for kids. In the last 20 years, they have raised over $164 million supporting over 160 hospitals. Did you know, Spirit Halloween has been supporting Holland Bloorview since 2012? They have raised a spook-tacular $1.2 million and we are so grateful! On top of that, every year they donate new costumes to all kids staying at the hospital and Spirit Halloween employees visit to throw a fun boo-bash.

This , Holland Bloorview is launching Canada’s first comprehensive hospital-based food support program, helping families access the food supports they need while focusing on what matters most: their child’s care.

Made possible through the generosity of lead donors David and Lynn Coriat and Gary and Donna Slaight, and the support of our Together We Dare campaign, this groundbreaking program has the potential to support more than 1,000 families each year.

Holland Bloorview’s Youth@Work program offers teenage participants real-world job experience to ease their transition to adulthood.

We asked a Youth@Work participant what inspired them to join the program and take that first step toward employment experience.

American children and adults with conditions like autism, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome and end-stage kidney disease were 38 per cent less likely than non-disabled peers to receive a new kidney in a recent study. 'We're still measuring a significant inequality here and finding other clues that ableist biases and provider attitudes are contributing,' says co-author Ohio transplant surgeon Austin Schenk. For many children and youth, rehabilitation can be challenging, repetitive and sometimes painful. At the Bloorview Research Institute, researchers are helping change that through the power of video games.

Meet Ajmal Khan from the Possibilities Engineering and Research Lab. Using his engineering and software development expertise, Ajmal helps design mixed-reality games that support children and youth with disabilities and developmental differences as they work toward their therapy goals in fun, engaging and accessible ways.
