NeighbourLink North York Building a connected community towards alleviating poverty and isolation.

At NeighbourLink North York our goal is to foster a resilient, sustainable and vibrant community where no single individual or group is left behind. Our mission is to engage and empower neighbours to care for each other in practical, relational and sustainable ways that give everyone the opportunity to live out their potential. As a locally based Christian community development organization, we believe transformation happens when we come together as friends, neighbours, churches, organizations and business owners to address poverty, social isolation, discrimination, violence and other community gaps and injustices.

Introducing Victor our incredible Food Programs Assistant! While he is new to this role, he is not new to NeighbourLink. He's been so supportive of our programs and we're thrilled he's on the team. We're excited for you to get to know him:

Hi everyone! I’m Victor, a long-time telecommunications and electronic engineer and project coordinator who loves using organization and problem-solving to make things run smoothly. My journey with NeighbourLink started back at the 2021 Christmas Market. I was instantly struck by the incredible warmth, cheer, and dedication of the team working out in the cold weather. I officially started volunteering in June 2025 across the youth, senior, and food bank programs.

I’m thrilled to step into the role of Food Programs Assistant, where I help Roberto coordinate food distributions, support our amazing volunteers, handle program logistics, and ensure our food banks and mobile delivery services run with dignity and care.

What I’ve loved most since stepping into this work is meeting people right here in our neighbourhood, learning about their backgrounds, and connecting with seniors. Delivering food and seeing those smiling faces makes every single day rewarding.

Moving forward, I’m most looking forward to deepening these community relationships, working alongside our wonderful volunteers and staff, and finding new ways to support our neighbours with warmth, respect, and heart. I am especially excited to leverage my technology background to help the organization develop high-efficiency programs, custom apps, and streamlined databases to support the team’s ongoing success!

We had loads of fun at Willowdale Manor with a Salsa Dance Workshop! We had the pleasure of welcoming back Jena from Trustfall Arts. The seniors loved her energy and inclusivity. Her class allowed all seniors to participate, regardless of dance experience or mobility. Everyone had a great time moving to the music! Thank you, Jena!

Many thanks to our volunteers who helped out at the program. It was heartwarming to see them join the seniors for the dance class, making it a truly intergenerational event. If you would like to volunteer and support seniors in our community, sign up at www.neighbourlink.org/volunteer

Your donations help to keep these programs going, alleviating social isolation for seniors in the community. Please consider contributing to these programs by visiting www.neighbourlink.org/donate

We were thrilled to also join the recent session of the MINDS intergenerational mental wellness event series, hosted by North York Seniors Centre! This interactive workshop was led by Dr. Shilpi Gupta. She focused on the benefits of self-care and good-quality sleep, an important topic for every age. This fostered great discussions between youth and seniors, making it a wonderful learning experience for all.

We look forward to the next MINDS event on November 28th. If you are a youth aged 14-18 or a senior who is interested in joining future MINDS events, contact Saanuha from North York Seniors Centre at [email protected] or 416-733-4111 ext 233

You can give your tree a second life and third life this holiday season!

Help us create a Willowdale Wonderland at Mel Lastman Square. Your tree will animate the space before the big Tree Lighting Ceremony

Then your tree will be donated to newcomer families in North York celebrating their first Christmas in their new home.

Because of your kindness and generosity, attendees at the 675 Food Hub and 415 Food Hub enjoyed fresh turkeys, chickens, hams, pies, produce, and all the fixings for a joyful holiday meal. We also provided turkeys to Immanuel 7th Day Adventist Church, where volunteers prepared and distributed warm Thanksgiving dinners. Some of those meals were then delivered by NeighbourLink volunteers and staff to homebound neighbours on Monday so they could also enjoy a warm Thanksgiving meal.

Our sincerest gratitude to:

Individual neighbours who made donations
- Tuft's Your Independent Grocer for a large donation of pies, hams, whole halal chickens, stuffing and gravy
- John & Danielle’s No Frills, AJ and Ashley's No Frills, Nick’s No Frills, and Real Canadian Superstore (Dufferin & Steeles) for their support
- Charlies Meat Supply for providing such affordably priced fresh food
- Immanuel SDA Church and their volunteers who cooked and packaged 500+ Thanksgiving meals
- Best Buy teams at Bayview Glen and at Downsview for donating 40 turkeys for a 4th year in a row
- North York Harvest Food Bank for non-perishables at our 675 Food Hub
- North York Chinese Baptist Church for sharing their space and volunteers
- Metro Yonge & Church, Food Basics Thornhill and FreshCo Jane & Finch for their support
- Thanksgiving food drives held at St Cyril Catholic School, Toronto French Montessori School , St. Gabriel Catholic School, Petite Luminaries Childcare, Angus Valley Montessori Schools, Willowdale Christian School, Willowbrae Academy Bayview, Tree Of Life Montessori and St Edward Catholic School

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration last Thursday at Willowdale Manor! Talented residents entertained us with dance and karaoke performances before over 100 seniors enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings, prepared by Yonge Cafe & Bistro

This year, we are thankful for so much in our community:
• Our seniors, who bring us joy and teach us so much.
• Our amazing volunteers, who keep these programs running smoothly.
• Our generous donors, whose support keeps these programs completely free for low-income seniors.

We are so grateful to continue this work and serve even more seniors across Willowdale.

Celebrating Our Seniors!

Thursday, October 1st was National Seniors Day. We had the pleasure of celebrating this special occasion with the residents of The Kempford, a Toronto Senior Housing Building in our neighbourhood. We enjoyed a celebratory cake and a fantastic musical performance by Jukebox Jammers. This lively band, made up of local seniors, performed hits from the 50s and 60s, and seniors and volunteers of all ages sang and danced along. Thank you, Jukebox Jammers, for an amazing afternoon!

A big thank you to our volunteers, many of whom are seniors, who make all of these events possible. If you would like to volunteer and support seniors in our community, sign up at www.neighbourlink.org/volunteer
