PAL Canada PAL Canada: Caring For Professional Artists Each Chapter is autonomous and is represented on the Board of PAL Canada®.

PAL Canada® is the national umbrella organization, linking the seven PAL Chapters in Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Stratford, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver. Membership in PAL implies a commitment to PAL’s mandate, which is to create and encourage programs and services for, senior and disadvantaged members and associates of Canada’s professional artists community in the areas of affordable accommodat

ion, and overall well being. Membership in a Chapter automatically includes membership in PAL Canada. PAL Residences are filled with performers, writers, painters, directors, management and production people from every branch of the Performing Arts industry. We sponsor the SUPPORTING CAST program, a team of volunteers who assist our disabled and elderly, supervise a professional home care service which maintains 24-hour emergency response, and work with a registered nursing centre with long term care facilities. PAL CANADA led the way in planning and developing affordable housing for our unique community. It has, over the last twenty years, garnered credibility and established a national reputation. It pioneered a volunteer assistance program called Supporting Cast (“PAL’s Angels” in Vancouver) which provides companionship, personal care and health assistance to individual colleagues. Establishing a “Supporting Cast” type of organization is usually the first step in founding a PAL Chapter and exemplifies, in practical terms, the PAL motto: “Caring For Professional Artists”. Our continuing goal is to establish Chapters in every major centre across Canada where large numbers of the industry live so that older colleagues will not be forgotten at the end of their careers, but cared for by their own community.

EDIT: Grant has passed away and we trust he is on to another great role in the venue of his choice.
We'll all miss his light, his humour, and his stories!
Here are a few of Grant's stories from our Socially Distant but Staying Connected project during Covid:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8Dgd1eMpek

Grant Cowan is in our hearts right now. So many of us have had the privilege of sharing the stage with him and Grant has been supportive of WSP since our beginning 10 years ago. He performed in our R***e “Young at Heart” and we were delighted to help him celebrate his 90th birthday last August.
We will forward all message of love and support to him and his loving partner of forever, Jamie.
From Val Boyle’s post:
Our Darling GRANT COWAN - "GRANTY" as he is lovingly known by those close to him, needs our prayers and our love right now.
He is currently in Palliative Care (5th floor) St. Joseph's Hospital, in very serious condition.
Anyone who knows GRANTY, knows he has a bigger heart than all outdoors. He has done so much for so many people
He is a force of love and kindness.
Right now, he needs some of that love and kindness redirected back to him, AND... I know he would want us to pray for the love of his life: Jamie Ferrari.
Jamie is going through hell right now. He is by Granty's side 24/7
Love and prayers, are powerful and would be welcomed. Perhaps he’d also like some cards with messages Jamie might be able to read to him. LOVE ❤️ YOU GRANTY!
