SEYA is set to illuminate the city with the talent of its youth
At the 14th annual Ruckus showcase Ruckus: Luminescence
Ruckus Luminescence: on Saturday June 21, 2014 the South Etobicoke Youth Assembly will be hosting its 14th annual Ruckus talent and fashion showcase. The show will be at held at The Assembly Hall, 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive. This year show will be highlighting all the amazing work SEYA has done throughout the 2013-14 school year. SEYA is a youth run, youth led organization and Ruckus is a showcase and celebration of the great work the youth have done. This year the show will be headlined by many local aspiring artists. Ruckus has always been a platform for youth wishing to display their artistic talents. This year’s show will be diverse in scope, singers, dancers, magicians, bands, orchestra, photography, videos and much, much more. Also a highlight at this year’s event will be SEYA’s photography program gallery exhibit on display. A staple of all Ruckus shows, the issue of advocacy and being an advocate on issues affecting youth will be front and centre. SEYA youth have always focused on social justice.
This year’s show focuses on the how Toronto youth are striving to make the city of Toronto a better place to libe. For SEYA, 2014 has been the year to illuminate the city on just how impactful youth are. This year SEYA has shed light on many youth issues such as unemployment, affordable education, mental health and the cost of public transportation. These were all issues highlighted at its Youth Speakout this year. This year’s Ruckus will not only be illuminating youth issues that are sometimes left in the dark, but also will illuminate the city with the talent and vitality of local youth. Ruckus each year has been a grand event for SEYA’s youths. This year’s Ruckus Luminescence, with its theme of neon colour is set to Brightens everyone’s collective system.
Show time for the event is set for 7 PM with doors opening at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $5 at the door. Individuals and families that show up early are invited to browse the photographs on display. They are also invited to take some fun picture of themselves at the photo booth that will be onsite.
About SEYA: SEYA is a youth led, youth run organization that is run out of LAMP CHC. The organization was founded in 2000 and has held its Ruckus show for just as long. SEYA works with the local middle schools, and high schools to facilitate workshops, camps and take part in school functions. SEYA is committed to helping make the youth in the South Etobicoke area better educated and informed citizens as well as enhancing their skills.
