All aboard the "Shepherd Cruise" (relax, no passports needed). Today, we teamed up with Mosaic Home Care Services & Community Resource Centres to bring you Life in the Blue Zone, taking us across the world’s longevity hotspots, home to some of the healthiest centenarians on the planet.

We learned what these communities do to live long, vibrant lives, from their daily habits and lifestyles to some fascinating facts, and even got to taste food from these regions. We wrapped things up with a flower prize draw to top off a day that was educational, entertaining, and memorable.

Mark your calendars! On Monday, August 31st, at 2 pm, we are hosting Life in the Blue Zones here at Shepherd Village Inc., in partnership with Mosaic Home Care & Community Resource Centre.

Come by for an afternoon of food tastings, live music, and a presentation on what the world’s longest-living communities can teach us about health and happiness. Admission is free and everyone’s welcome, so bring a friend and come discover what living well really looks like.

Congratulations to Our Shepherd Lodge BSO Team!

We are proud to celebrate the Shepherd Lodge BSO team for receiving the Sustainability Award through the Sparking Change in the Appropriate Use of Antipsychotics Program!

Over the past year, the team worked to improve the appropriate use of antipsychotic medications while expanding person-centred approaches that support residents’ independence, mobility, and quality of life. With support from Healthcare Excellence Canada, they reviewed every resident’s care, working closely with families, physicians, and staff to ensure medications were used safely and appropriately.

Thank you to everyone who made this achievement possible. Your dedication continues to make a real difference in our residents’ lives.

Last night, we gathered at our Memorial Garden to unveil a plaque engraved with the names of residents and family members we’ve lost, names chosen by the people who loved them most, so they’d always have a place to be remembered.

There were quiet tears, warm hugs, and a shared sense that even in loss, love remains. Our garden was built for moments like these, a place to sit with your memories and feel close to someone again.

If you’re ever passing by, stop in. Let the water and the breeze remind you that the people we love are never really gone.

Every summer, we make it a point to do something special for the people who show up every single day with open hearts and endless patience: our staff. This year, we turned up the sunshine, rolled out the beach balls, and filled the day with good food, friendly games, and dancing that didn't stop. Laughter echoed through the halls. Smiles were everywhere. For a few hours, it was all about them, the incredible team who pours so much love into our community, day after day. Our residents feel it. Our families see it. And today, we made sure our staff knew just how much it means to all of us. Thank you for being the heart of this community. This one was for you.

Summer is in full bloom at Shepherd Village! 🦋 In celebration of our Butterfly Initiative, the Courtyard Café hosted a delightful afternoon craft class where residents transformed simple coffee filter paper into beautiful, colorful butterflies. With just a few easy steps, our residents got creative, some took their butterflies home as sweet keepsakes, while others proudly added theirs to the café's artwork wall for everyone to enjoy!

Happy Friday! 🐾
After a few attempts to get the timing just right, our furry friends finally made it back for a visit this Monday, when the weather cooperated and did not disappoint! We’re still reminiscing about it as we look back on the photos this week. And let’s just say... nobody went home hungry. All it took was one cute face, and the food came flying in from residents, staff, and guests alike! Honestly, we won’t be surprised if they show up again next year. They know a good deal when they see one. 😂💛
