Members of the JLT gathered together for a walk along the harbourfront recently. These types of events help us build great connections amongst our members while spending time in places across the city. It was beautiful warm night with a breeze off the lake. The harbourfront was bustling with loads of people and activity.

Queen Harbour restaurant was packed (thank goodness for reservations). A great place to have a drink and spend time with JLT friends and potential new members. And the truffle fries are delicious!

PLANNED PARENTHOOD
In 1971, the JLT pledged $7,000 over two years to assist Planned Parenthood in paying for a salaried volunteer coordinator and providing volunteers. Seven years later, an additional $30,000 was given for educational outreach programs and a research and advocacy project that surveyed Family Studies Programs in high schools for parenting education.

DARLING HOME FOR KIDS (FORMERLY ROSE CHERRY HOME FOR KIDS)
The JLT was involved with The Rose Cherry Home for Kids (now the Darling Home for Kids) from its beginning. The home provides services for families with medically fragile children in palliative care with beds and programs for the children. The JLT supported with funding and fund raising, soliciting for home supplies and equipment to fill the rooms and volunteer hours. Thanks to the JLT planning and executing the opening and being on the Board, the Darling Home has expanded from 6 to 16 beds and continues to provide much needed support in this area, using local volunteers. The model has served as inspiration for paediatric hospice care in Canada.

This month, we reflect on progress, acknowledge challenges, and commit to building inclusive communities. Together, diversity and accessibility strengthen us all.
