Chiara Padovani City Councillor Candidate for York South-Weston in Toronto’s municipal election on October 26, 2026

Chiara Padovani is a social worker and human rights advocate working at North York Harvest Food Bank. Born and raised in Toronto, Chiara has worked closely with many diverse communities across the city and throughout the province in developing and implementing participatory community projects. Over the course of her local activism, she became acutely aware of the need to tackle the root causes of

poverty and inequality. She knows that challenges such as the housing and job crisis in this city are a consequence of government policies that fail to ensure the right to adequate housing, decent work and an inclusive city for everyone. After six years of international human rights experience in Latin America, she returned to her home neighbourhood of Weston-Mount Dennis to continue to fight for social justice and inclusive development. Since returning she has been a key organizer of local several local initiatives including the fight for a $15 minimum wage, food security and green spaces.

⛈️ When it rains it floods 🌊

At least in Rockliffe-Smythe this is far too common. It’s one of the most flood-prone areas in Toronto. That’s why we’ve been organizing with residents to better protect our homes from basement flooding.

I spent some time with Rui who showed us the steps he’s taken since the last flood. As the future city councillor for York South-Weston, I’m going to continue supporting residents living in these high-risk areas.

🌦️Summer rains bring summer floods in Toronto and residents of Rockliffe-Smythe know this far too well!

That’s why we helped organize the neighbourhood’s very first Flooding Prevention Block Party in April to educate homeowners on steps they can take to mitigate basement flooding as well as ensure we come together as a community to help each other during the next flood.

🔥They said I wouldn’t come close, we came within 94 votes. They said I was crazy, but this girl from York South-Weston ain’t no quitter! This time, we’re taking it over the finish line and then some.

You could feel the energy at our launch party and it’s the same energy I feel talking to my neighbours when I knock on doors. People want change. What they say is impossible is only impossible if you go at it alone. Together, we can make history.
