πŸŽ‰ Big congratulations to ChemE graduate students Thomas Pruyn, Amro Aswad and Sartaaj Khan from Professor Mohamad Moosavi’s research group!

The trio has been selected as part of the inaugural 2026 cohort of ChatGPT Futures, recognizing students using AI to advance research, innovation, and creativity.

Their work on MOF-ChemUnity β€” materials with promise for carbon capture β€” which was published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society in December 2025, helped earn them this international recognition.

As part of the award, they will:
✨ Visit OpenAI headquarters in San Francisco
✨ Receive research API credits
✨ Receive a $10,000 grant

β€œThis is wonderful for our student community, and I hope it inspires all our students to be ambitious and develop cutting-edge research!” - Professor Mohamad Moosavi

Congratulations Thomas, Amro & Sartaaj on this outstanding achievement! πŸ‘

Exploring the future of sustainable biotechnology at the 2026 BioZone Symposium: Waste to Value through Biotechnology ♻️πŸ§ͺ

Hosted at the University of Toronto, the symposium brought together researchers, students and industry leaders to showcase innovative work in industrial and environmental biotechnology β€” from biomining and bioremediation to carbon capture, bio-based chemicals and circular bioeconomy technologies.

The day featured research presentations, keynote talks, industry discussions and collaborative conversations focused on transforming waste into valuable resources and advancing more sustainable solutions for industry and the environment.

Thanks to BioZone Academic Director Emma Master, Executive Director Jordan Wosnick, & the entire BioZone team for putting the event together; as well as all the speakers, presenters and attendees who helped make the symposium such a success!
