James Town Youth Council is a group of young people from St. James Town who meet on a monthly basis to plan opportunities for bettering their community. YSM (Yonge Street Mission) supports the Council by offering administrative support through an adult advisor and also by granting them an annual budget which we oversee and use as they see fit to accomplish their mandate. What we do:

alent Show: “Urban Flair” - 500+ attendees with prizes and giveaways. March Break “Camp Reality”: Provides high school students with the opportunity to be exposed to unique careers. Past "Camp Reality" days have included exploring the realms of: Architecture, Fashion, Culinary Arts, Engineering, Medicine, Media, Business etc. We have also had successful Unversity Tours of University of Waterloo, McMaster University & Laurier! Jane's Walk: Provides everyone with a chance to learn more about the community by touring through the neighbourhood and sharing personal stories. James Town specific awards program for high school students looking to enter post-secondary education. This year, we have several committees working on other projects:

Philanthropy Committee: Works to continously find ways in which philathropic initiatives can be undertake to benefit St. James Town. Past projects include:
KIDPACKS - Backpacks filled with back to school supplies for young children in St. Hot Chocolate Sales - to both spread some warmth during the winter season & raise money for the Scholarship Committee. Tennis Court Revitalization Committee: Have been working for a few years to develop a strong case to revitalize a run-down tennis court in St. James Town and transform it into a multi-purpose space open for everyone to use. If you're looking to get involved with the council, new members are welcomed in September every year. Stay tuned!
