We hosted our fourth and final volunteer group from BMO as part of BMO's Days of Impact! The volunteers supported our Newcomer Youth Program in their back-to-school drive, by donating and assembling bags of school supplies and handwritten notes, followed by participating in an afternoon of fun activities with the youth.

Our Newcomer Youth Program at the House supports and empowers youth who are new to Canada. Volunteers like BMO provide an important opportunity to create connection, community and belonging, and to prepare our youth for a successful start to the school year. Thank you, BMO!

A nice mini-documentary about John Tavares (Leaf's player) and his family's connection to the St. Christopher House Lacrosse Team, which originated at the House when we were still called St. Christopher House.

The video starts with him mentioning Bob Ellis who was a former staff and Board president at our organization. We currently have a scholarship fund in his honour.

Around 4:10 mark, there are some photos of our location at 248 Ossington. An incredible example of how sports could unite people and change lives. Watch full video on Youtube:

We had a great day with a group of BMO volunteers at our recent summer celebration at West Lodge! From setting up, preparing and serving food, to facilitating games and prizes, they helped create a joyful atmosphere for all of our participants.

Thank you to BMO for joining us and for their generous donations which made this event possible.

The event was part of the West Active Living and Learning Centre (WALLC) program at the House which offers activities to help connect older adults with their peers and with opportunities for fitness, education, community development, social connections, and more.

If you would like to know more about WALLC and other programs in the Older Adult Centre, please contact Central Intake at 416-532-4828 ext. 146 or visit our website at westnh.org

The House welcomed a volunteer group from the BMO Days of Impact for our Caribbean Celebration event.

Volunteers supported staff with the event, including setup, decorations, as well as, served some refreshments to the participants in our seniors programs. The event was made possible with support from BMO.

BMO Days of Impact are not only good for team-building, but also is a good opportunity to engage with community agencies like West Neighbourhood House, and learn about issues impacting the community.

These events also help participants in the West Active Living and Learning Program and Adult Day Service connect with the community and each other, helping promote a more active, healthier lifestyle.

If you would like to know more about WALLC and other programs in the Older Adult Centre, please contact Central Intake at 416-532-4828 ext. 146 or visit our website at westnh.org

The pinwheel activity, Connect4 and Giant Tetris, were again hugely popular with families. We also had a lot of meaningful discussions with community members and families, including about our EarlyON West Neighbourhood House Family Drop-in Program and the needs in the community.

The West Active Living and Learning Centre (WALLC) program at West Neighbourhood House hosted a Caribbean Summer Celebration, as part of the BMO Days of Impact, taking place this month across our organization.

The event brought together seniors from different backgrounds, and from around the community for an afternoon of music, cultural celebration, food and social connection. The event also included some activities, a photo booth, decorations and a dance class.

A special thank you to BMO for their continued support of the House, including the incredible volunteers who helped make the event possible.

Food for the event was provided by Tdot Jerk, whom provided us with jerk chicken and also donated a macaroni pie for the event.

Island Foods Express provided delicious channa and chicken curry.

The wonderful Caribbean-themed costumes and entertainment was provided by the wonderfully energetic Marty Lampkin from Masabilities: Disability Carnival Without Limits (https://www.martylampkinspeaks.com/masabilities-carnivalwithoutlimits), and the dance session was facilitated by Kayta from Dance Together Project

Thank you to all.

Last week we were pleased to host a group of volunteers from BMO at The Meeting Place. The volunteers spent the day packing over 50 hygiene kits and preparing a delicious cooked breakfast - all of which were gratefully received by our participants. The food and supplies were kindly donated by BMO Financial Group
