Today we joined Rexall pharmacist Mackenzie Wiebe and Substance National Director of Philanthropy Paola Gonzalez to educate the public on the safe storage and disposal of medications-
“Together for Safer Homes”.

Only by working together can we address the challenges and complexities of the abuse and misuse of drugs.
Through partnerships like this one, we can provide resources, services, and raise awareness around the proper storage and disposal. -Inspector Caracciolo.

We are excited to build on the momentum created at this year’s Joint School Safety Symposium. Participants from the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), City of Toronto, Toronto Police Service (TPS), Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC), and Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) came together to share strategies & trends, strengthen inter-agency relationships, and explore new approaches to engage students, families, and communities in fostering safer school environments.

The contributions of our volunteers are not just important; they are integral to our community and the success of our Service. Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization, and their dedication and hard work profoundly impact our community.
The Toronto Police Service Auxiliary program was established in 1957 and has proven to be a vital component of our service. Currently, there are 320 auxiliary officers actively participating in the program. These volunteers are assigned to various front-line divisions and specialized units, including the Marine Unit, Traffic Services, Community Partnerships & Engagement Unit. They also operate our heritage vehicles, which are prominently displayed at many community events. Auxiliaries are trained, uniformed volunteers from within our communities and support the Toronto Police Service in fulfilling public safety and wellbeing initiatives. Auxiliary members serve as familiar and a reassuring presence at community events, and their commitment to completing hundreds of hours of community service each year is truly commendable.

Account Takeovers (Gaining access to user accounts)
Identify Thefts (Assuming a person’s identity)
Confidence (Befriending a victim)
Cryptocurrency (Soliciting investments in cryptocurrency)
Online Investment (Posing as legimate investment opportunities)
Coffey said online investment scams, which account for $71.2 million in losses, are the most damaging.

“It often begins as a romance scam, initiating contact through phishing texts and emails, creating fake profiles on dating sites or social media and then building trust and fostering relationships over weeks or months,” he said. “Once trust is established, the scammers subtly introduce an investment opportunity. Victims, enticed by the lure of financial gains, end up transferring funds to the scammers.

“Once a victim invests, they may show fake profits to encourage more deposits. But when you try to withdraw your money, they disappear along with your money.”
