The Department of Chemistry community is mourning the loss of Professor Jeremy Schofield after his passing on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

In 1997, he joined the University of Toronto, where he established his career as a professor of chemistry. His doctoral research formed part of his early contributions to statistical mechanics and the theoretical description of complex systems.

alum Pamela Gravestock pushed teaching and learning excellence to new heights. Today, a memorial fund in her name is supporting Canadian Studies students taking ‘The University in Canada,’ a class she created and taught.

A new scholarship is bolstering support for students in Canadian Studies and honouring the memory of Pamela Gravestock, an instructor, senior administrator and friend to many across the university. Gravestock passed away in August 2020.

For the duration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the word "football" needs no translation. For University of Toronto economics professor Jordi Mondria, the tournament also marks the return of a fiercely competitive family tradition: World Cup fantasy football.

“Every time there is a World Cup, we create these fantasy teams and we compete against each other, and we get bragging rights for four years,” Mondria said. “We take it seriously — it’s an intense time in the family this month.”

Lellow Sedio’s confidence in her education prospects hit a low point in 2017.

Originally from Botswana, Sedio’s first attempt at university in Canada hadn’t gone to plan. Then she came across a Facebook ad for the University of Toronto’s Transitional Year Programme (TYP), a U of T access program that prepares students for a university education through a supportive, small-cohort learning environment.

She cobbled together an application on deadline day — a last-minute decision that changed her life.
