Coming out can be a deeply personal experience, and everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and supported in being who they are.

If a loved one comes out to you, you can show your support by listening without judgment, affirming their identity, and reminding them they’re loved exactly as they are. Even seemingly small actions, like using the right name and pronouns can make a big impact!

What an incredible night at the AGO! 👏

The Exposure Project Exhibition at the AGO’s Galleria Italia brought together a collection of art created by human trafficking survivors, celebrating their creativity, resilience and voices.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported the artists and helped make the evening so meaningful. We’re grateful to everyone who showed up and stood with survivors. ❤️

Earlier this week, our Chief Executive Officer, Carly Kalish, presented a deputation to the Standing Committee on Justice Policy in support of Bill 119.

In her deputation, Carly spoke about a reality many survivors of human trafficking face: leaving violence does not always mean being free from its impact.

For survivors, exploitation can follow them long after they have left their trafficker. It can show up on their credit report when they apply for an apartment, when they need a cell phone, return to school or apply for new credit.

That is why the coerced debt provisions in Bill 119 are so important. Removing the financial barriers created through exploitation can help create a path towards independence and safety.

Survivors deserve the opportunity to rebuild their lives without the consequences of their exploitation continuing to hold them back.

The recent Cornell sexual assault case has sparked widespread conversation about sexual violence and how survivors are supported when they come forward.

At Victim Services Toronto, we believe survivors deserve to be heard, treated with care and supported while having their choices and autonomy respected.

Tonight, the AGO’s Galleria Italia becomes a space to celebrate the creativity and resilience of human trafficking survivors.

Through The Exposure Project, survivor-artists were given the space, tools and mentorship to transform their stories into original works of art. Tonight’s exhibition offers an opportunity to see, listen and learn through their creative expression.

All works will be available through a silent auction, with 100% of proceeds going directly back to the artists.

Events like The Exposure Project create space for survivor-artists to share their work on their own terms and for their voices to be heard beyond the statistics.

We’re grateful to the City of Toronto for their support, and to AdmitONE, our ticketing partner, for donating 100% of ticketing fees back to VST. We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible sponsors: , , Cloud Wiz, CTS and .

Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day.

Wearing orange is a way to honour the survivors, acknowledge the children who never returned home, and stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities.

But reconciliation goes way beyond awareness— it requires systemic change.

That means addressing the colonial systems and structures that continue to create barriers for Indigenous communities, holding institutions accountable and ensuring Indigenous peoples have a meaningful role in shaping the systems that affect their lives.

Statistics continue to show that Indigenous women and girls experience disproportionately higher rates of human trafficking in Canada.

Human trafficking does not happen in isolation. In order to create meaningful change, we must look beyond individual experiences and address the systems and conditions that allow exploitation to occur.
