Deepfake technology is more than just a trend. With over 4,000 reported incidents in 2024, AI-generated sexual content involving minors is a growing online safety concern.

When fallen into the wrong hands, this technology can be used to create, manipulate or distribute explicit images without consent, contributing to exploitation, harassment and emotional harm.

Technology-facilitated child sexual abuse is no longer just a hypothetical risk, it’s happening right now. Swipe through this post to learn more about this issue and what parents and caregivers can do to help young people navigate digital spaces more safely.

If you or someone you know is experiencing sextortion or online harassment, VST is here to help. Call 416-808-7066 to speak with a crisis counsellor to get immediate support. Our phone lines are open 24/7.

Last year, your support helped us raise over $525,000 to support young victims after court.

Now, we’re building on that momentum to help them SOAR.

In partnership with Victim Services Toronto, SOAR is raising funds to support the launch of Post-Court Pathways, a first-of-its-kind specialized therapy program for young victims after court. This program will provide trauma-informed, age-appropriate care to help young people recover, rebuild, and move forward.

Human trafficking doesn’t always look like what we see in the media.

In reality, traffickers can be partners, friends, or even family members and grooming often happens gradually, through trust, attention and manipulation over time. Because of this, many survivors don’t recognize what is happening until much later.

In this video, Kaitlin Bick, our Anti-Human Trafficking Specialist at VST, shares her personal story. Her lived experience and journey toward healing continue to shape and fuel her advocacy work today, and we are so grateful to have her as part of our team.

If you or someone you know is a victim of human trafficking, we are here to help. Call 416-808-7066 to speak with a crisis counsellor to get immediate support. Our phone lines are open 24/7.

When we talk about harm and trauma, the language we use matters.

While both “victim” and “survivor” can be used to describe people who have experienced harm, they might not mean the same thing to everyone. For some, “victim” helps name the harm and acknowledge what was done to them. But for others, they prefer "survivor" as it reflects their strength and healing.

There is no right or wrong answer and what matters most is choice. People deserve to define their own experience in the way that feels right for them, and respecting someone’s language is part of respecting their story.

If you or someone you know have experienced sudden crime or tragedy, Victim Services Toronto is here to help. Give our crisis team a call at 416-808-7066. Our phone lines are open 24/7.
