Last week CG Fitzgibbon joined our friends at the Ireland Canada Chamber of Commerce in Toronto for their annual summer social. It’s always a pleasure to catch-up with the Toronto Irish business community, especially on a lovely summer’s evening!

Vice Consul Sweeney and Siofra the Shamrock attended the opening day of the Canadian National Exhibition. It was great to hear from Colonel Jeremy Hansen and so many other wonderful speakers. Did you know that the CNE is one of the largest annual fairs in Canada?

To finish the week, the team attended a great night of Irish music at the Rogers Centre, where Ed Sheeran was supported by Irish-Danish band Lukas Graham, Irish trad band Beoga and all-female Irish trad collective BIIRD. Don’t miss BIIRD’s upcoming concert on Friday 28 August at the Great Hall Toronto supported by Culture Ireland!

Consul General Claire Fitzgibbon was delighted to host an informal gathering of Irish community organisations at the Corleck, in partnership with the Canada Ireland Foundation, to hear from Irish community leaders from all over Ontario, from Hamilton to Peterborough to Tamworth (the only officially recognised Gaeltacht outside Ireland!)

During the meeting, we had the opportunity to hear from our community about their recent and upcoming activities, and to share updates on the Irish Foreign Ministry Emigrant Support Programme and the upcoming Canada-Ireland 180 initiative. Canada Ireland Foundation also shared information about how Irish community groups can use the Corleck for their events.

Many thanks to everyone who attended! GRMA
