What does it mean to be an Elder, and what role can Elders play in strengthening our communities?

Join the Toronto Council on Aging for The Power of the Elder: Culture, Community & the Role of Older Adults, a virtual presentation and conversation with Eli Anderson, Director of StoryAID.

Drawing on his work with African diaspora communities, Eli will explore how culture, identity, social conditions, and intergenerational relationships shape the experience of aging. The conversation will also highlight the knowledge, experience, and leadership older adults bring to their families and communities.

This session invites us to recognize older adults not only as recipients of services and care, but also as knowledge holders, community leaders, and contributors to stronger, more connected communities.

What an incredible turnout!

More than 80 people joined us for the No More Silent Battles film screening and community conversation on dementia, exceeding our expectations and showing how important it is to create spaces where people can learn, share their experiences and have open conversations about dementia.

Getting there

The church is located at Christie Street and St. Clair Avenue West. Take the 512 St. Clair streetcar or the 126 Christie bus and exit at Christie Street.

Parking is limited, so public transit or drop-off is recommended. An accessible entrance with no steps will be available.

Please note: The sanctuary can get warm. Wear light, comfortable clothing and bring a refillable water bottle if possible.

As part of the Toronto Council on Aging's Seniors Month celebration, we're proud to partner with No More Silent Battles Documentary to spotlight an important conversation about the future of dementia care.

The No More Silent Battles initiative has identified 7 strategic reforms that aim to strengthen home care, better support family caregivers, improve care coordination, and help people living with dementia receive the right support from the moment they're diagnosed.

These recommendations invite us to think beyond the challenges and toward meaningful solutions.

Introducing Seniors Are Doing It!

We're excited to launch a new Toronto Council on Aging storytelling series celebrating older adults who continue to learn, lead, create, volunteer, advocate, and make a difference in their communities.

For our inaugural feature, we're proud to spotlight Lorna Earl — former TCA Chair, educator, researcher, consultant, volunteer, gardener, artist, and lifelong learner.

At 78, Lorna continues to inspire those around her through her curiosity, leadership, and commitment to lifelong learning. Her remarkable journey has taken her from a small Ontario town to influencing education systems around the world, while remaining deeply engaged in her community.
