Reminder: If you've completed all your social work degree requirements but convocation is still months away, you don't have to wait to start your OCSWSSW registration.

As of September 1, 2024, the OCSWSSW requires formal confirmation of degree conferral before finalizing registration.

Most transcripts won't show this until after convocation.

The good news? You can request your institution issue an official transcript notation confirming your degree has been conferred, well before you walk the stage.
OASW's free letter template makes this request easy: https://mailchi.mp/oasw.org/oasw-conferral-letter-template

New free resource from OASW: a Degree Conferral Letter template!

Did you know there can be a gap of several months between finishing your social work degree and having that conferral show up on your official transcript? That gap can delay your registration with the OCSWSSW and your ability to start working as a Registered Social Worker.

OASW's new letter template helps you request an official transcript notation confirming your degree has been conferred, so you can move forward with registration sooner.

Enslavement happened in Canada. OASW recognizes Emancipation Day on August 1st, the date in 1834 when the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 came into effect across the British Empire, including the land now known as Canada.

Each year, this day is an opportunity to explore the legacy of enslavement in Canada and the role of social workers in dismantling anti-Black racism across our province and country.

OASW recognizes there is still much work to be done. As an association, we continue to centre the voices and expertise of Black social workers and advocate for culturally responsive care that honours the unique experiences of the Black individuals and communities we serve.

In observance of Emancipation Day in Ontario and in partnership with Nipissing University, OASW is hosting a virtual gathering on August 5th that brings together Black social workers to honour the enduring legacy of emancipation while reflecting on the realities, contributions, and leadership of Black social workers across the province.
