MARKHAM, ONTARIO - York Regional Police have charged a Toronto man following a violent, hate-motivated assault on a hotel employee in the City of Markham.

On September 28, 2025, just after 3 a.m., officers responded to reports of an assault in progress at a hotel near Highway 7 East and Commerce Valley Drive West. An employee reported that an intoxicated guest had become aggressive.

Upon arrival, police located a 54-year-old injured employee and arrested the suspect nearby. The victim sustained serious head injuries and was transported to a trauma centre.

Through investigation, officers learned that the suspect was attempting to pay for his room when his credit card was denied. A verbal altercation ensued, and the suspect’s demeanour changed when he learned the victim was Muslim. The suspect became upset, told the victim he was going to kill him and chased him to a room where he was violently assaulted.

OSHAWA, ONTARIO - Durham Police have issued a warning to the public after a high-risk offender was released from prison and is now living in Oshawa.

Matthew Donald Adlam, 52, was serving a sentence for a number of sexual assault-related offences.

Police say he poses a “significant risk to the community,” and has a history of serious criminal convictions, including sexual assault with a weapon, indecent act, break and enter, criminal harassment, carry concealed weapon and violations of long-term supervision orders.

Adlam is described as a white male with a slim build. He is bald with a beard and has a large facial tattoo.

He is bound by an order that has several conditions that include not attending a public park or swimming area where people under the age of sixteen years are present or can reasonably be expected to be present, or a daycare centre, school ground, playground, or community centre and abiding by a curfew from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

LONDON, ONTARIO - One suspect has been arrested, and members of the London Police Service Major Crime Section are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a second suspect in relation to a serious assault from late last week.

At approximately 8 p.m., on Friday, October 3, 2025, police were called to a disturbance in the area of Shelborne Street and Deveron Crescent. Officers arrived and located a male victim with serious injuries. The male was transported to hospital by paramedic services.

Police learned two male suspects attended a residence looking for the victim. The three became involved in an argument before the suspects brandished weapons and assaulted the victim.

During the altercation, a neighbour’s property was damaged.

Police located and arrested one of the suspects a short distance away, while the second suspect fled the area in a vehicle. Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the outstanding suspect and the vehicle he fled in.

The male suspect is described as male, Indigenous, approximately 25 years old, medium build and was wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts. He left in a silver Cadillac SUV with Ontario license plate DETL 324.

The suspect arrested a short distance away has been identified as Tehohalet Powless, 43, of London, and has been charged with the following offences:
❌ Aggravated assault
❌ Mischief under $5000
