SLOW DOWN and stop for School buses.
As students, families, teachers, and education staff across Prince Edward Island head back to school, many for the very first time, I want to wish everyone a safe, successful and rewarding school year.
The beginning of a new school year is always an exciting time. For students, it is a chance to learn new things, make new friends, discover their strengths and work toward their goals. I hope every Island student feels supported, encouraged and confident as they begin another year of learning.
Every student deserves to learn in a school environment where they feel safe, respected, included and supported. Student safety and well-being must always be at the heart of our education system, and we all have a role to play in creating positive and welcoming schools.
I also want to recognize the teachers, educational assistants, support staff, administrators, bus drivers and all those who work behind the scenes to make our schools strong. Guiding students learning, supporting their social and emotional well-being, and creating safe and inclusive learning environments are incredible responsibilities, and you deserve our full support and respect.
To the students heading to school: believe in yourself, ask questions, try new things, be a friend, and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
To parents and families: this is also an exciting time for you. You are your child’s first and most important teacher. Thank you for the critical role you play in supporting your children and their school community throughout the school year.
And to our educators and school staff and all those who support students: thank you for your commitment to our children and youth and for showing up every day for Island students.
Wishing everyone a wonderful start to the school year. Have a safe, happy and successful year ahead!
