A look back at firefighting in Trail.

This historic photo shows firefighters using hoses to battle a blaze at Hunt’s Department Store on Bay Avenue, which burned in 1928.

Nearly a century later, the equipment may have changed, but the work remains the same: firefighters answering the call and protecting our community.

The work we do doesn’t stop at the fire hall. Every week, we’ll be highlighting an organization or community project supported by the Trail Firefighters Charitable Society.

Through the Trail Firefighters 50/50, funds raised help us support organizations doing meaningful work in our community and beyond.

This week, we’re proud to highlight our long-standing support of the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund. For more than 17 years, the Trail Firefighters Charitable Society has donated an incredible $112,992 to the Burn Fund through our fundraising efforts. 🧡

That’s more than $112,000 helping support burn survivors and their families — and it’s something our firefighters and our community can be proud of.

🔥 IF A FIRE STARTS, KNOW WHAT TO DO 🚒

A fire can spread incredibly quickly. If you discover a fire:

🚪 Get out immediately. Don’t stop to grab valuables.

⬇️ Stay low if there’s smoke. Smoke rises, so cleaner air may be closer to the floor.

✋ Check doors before opening them. If a door feels hot, don’t open it. Find another way out.

📞 Call 911 once you’re safely outside.

🏠 Stay outside. Never go back into a burning building — even if you think someone or something is still inside.

Your first priority is simple: GET OUT. STAY OUT.

🚒 Leave the firefighting to the firefighters.

🚒 Fire Safety: Have an Escape Plan

If a fire starts in your home, every second counts. Make sure your family knows what to do before an emergency happens.

🔥 Sit down together and create a home escape plan.
🚪 Identify two ways out of every room, if possible.
📍 Choose a meeting place outside your home.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Make sure everyone knows the plan — including children.
🏃 Practice your escape plan together so it becomes familiar.

And remember: Once you’re out, stay out. Never go back inside.

Take a few minutes this week to make a plan with your family. It could save a life. ❤️‍🔥
