Home and cozy after a great day at market!

The car can be unpacked tomorrow πŸ˜…

Just wanted to take a moment to be grateful for a few things!

Today was a really successful day at market for me and I really appreciate everyone that made a purchase.

I'm also grateful for my husband who held down the fort while I was away.

Last, but not least, I'm really grateful to have seen a few familiar faces and made new connections with some very cool vendors and the community as a whole. I had some wonderful conversations and got to gush about some of my favourite things. There are some really lovely people in this new community I find myself in, and markets are the main way I get to meet them!

I'm feeling really encouraged and fulfilled. So, thank you to everyone that attended the Trick or Treat Market today. I plan to see you all again real soon!

When working with vintage/ reclaimed textiles, you never know what you'll find.

The initial inspection indicated to me that I had a beautiful child's kimono to work with, a few stains here and there, but nothing that couldn't be worked around!

The soak wash revealed more issues than I had expected. The first issue was red dye transfer that occurred in the soak bath 😭 The beautiful mint green background has been muddied, and the ghosts of maple leaves and cross hatch are scattered everywhere. On closer inspection, while ironing, much heavier soiling was found, leaving clear lines of demarcation around every seam line.

The final kicker was realizing the garment had previously been dry cleaned as it had a horrible chemical smell when pulling it out of the bath (almost like gasoline). Spraying the fabric with vinegar water and letting it air out took care of the smell. Even after a second soak wash, the smell hasn't come back.

I'm a little heartbroken and incredibly disheartened by the results of laundering. I'm finding workable pieces for smaller projects like micro knot bags, where the incredible print can be preserved and showcased. So, not all is lost. This has been an eye-opening learning experience, for sure.

I think I'll keep the more soiled and damaged sections in my personal collection for a future project. The Japanese have a beautiful concept called "wabi sabi" where you embrace the beauty in imperfection. All is not lost, I think I just need to adjust my perspective, and I know I can find a way to honor this beautiful textile, flaws, and all πŸ’–

I've always loved collecting crystals and utilizing their metaphysical properties in my spiritual practice.

I've always loved suncatchers even more.

Nothing represents our connectedness to nature more than the blending of wood, stone, and light.

Painting rainbows on our walls, radiating the vibrations of the earth, bringing moments of pause as the radiant prisms dance our consciousness into the cosmos.

This piece incorporates the powers of Red Line Jasper, Leopard Jasper, and Citrine. Lending their vitality, endurance, and empowerment on your journey of personal and spiritual growth. Shining a joyful light through energetically lean times, bringing hope and strength to push forward through hardship and weariness.

Custom designs and intentions are available.

It's been a hot minute since I posted (it's been a hot minute since I've had anything really to share tbh). But, with spooky season here, a fresh do and the weather getting perfectly chilly, I have renewed energy and creativity!
Admittedly, I have a Halloween market near the end of October, and I have lots to do and share before the 25th, so keep your eyes open for new products and some behind the scenes candids.
First up, I have this beautiful vintage silk kimono deconstructed and ready for a bath. The only question is....... what to make?!? A dress? A peasant blouse? A skirt? Whatever I end up making, I plan on featuring it on the dress form at the market, so please help me decide!
Happy spooky season friends!

I haven't posted in a while, and part of the reason is that I have been busy working on this incredible commission from Chantelle's Apothecary for these beautiful little travel apothecary bags!

These bags are a functional and beautiful way to showcase two of my favourite japanese textiles from my stash.

The pink and brown leaf print is reclaimed vintage kimono silk. While deconstructing the kimono I found that the fabric was worse for wear, with tiny holes peppered throughout, especially around seams. Small items like these bags are a perfect way to work around the imperfections you often find in vintage textiles.

I'm so happy this beautiful fabric could find a new life 🩷

Happy spooky season friends!
I finally found some time to finish up my Bat Tote and photograph it. I absolutely love how it turned out and how much spooky goodness I could incorporate into the fabric selection.
I have so much going on in the studio leading up to my next show (and Halloween of course!) That I can't wait to show you. So I'm going to challenge myself to post every day in October!
Stay tuned and stay spooky πŸ‘»

I am working on a new tote bag style for my upcoming Halloween craft show and collection.
The bat applique houses two front pockets, perfect for a little notebook or your cell phone.
I'm waiting on some black twill tape and lace trim that I plan on dying to make the handles, and I'm sitting on pins and needles.
I can't wait to finish this tote and keep working on all the other ideas I have for spooky season, so stay tuned!
