The Town of Truro is developing a Community Wildfire Protection Plan and is seeking community input. Fill out the survey below for a chance to win $100 in Downtown Truro Dollars!

The Town of Truro is developing a Community Wildfire Protection Plan to help better understand and reduce wildfire risk in and around our community.

Community input is an important part of the process, and residents are encouraged to complete the public survey to share local knowledge, concerns, and experiences related to wildfire risk.

As a thank-you for participating, you can enter for a chance to win $100 in Downtown Truro Dollars.

The survey is optional and anonymous if preferred. You may skip the contact information section and proceed directly to the questionnaire.

The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) will be testing the Alert Ready system in Nova Scotia on Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, at 1:55 p.m. The test will be sent province-wide to television, radio, and compatible mobile devices. May 3rd to 9th is Emergency Preparedness Week. The Colchester Regional Emergency Management Organization encourages residents to know the risks in their area and be prepared by creating an emergency kit that will help get you through the first 72 hours of an emergency or disaster.

PUBLIC ADVISORY – SHELTER IN PLACE: Two male suspects, armed with a handgun, are in the Ice Pond Drive area, Salmon River, Colchester County, Nova Scotia. RCMP officers are responding. Motorists are asked to avoid the area. Residents are asked to seek immediate shelter, close and lock all doors and windows, and not leave a secure location. The suspects were last seen on foot in the Ice Pond Drive area. One is wearing a dark grey hoodie, green or camouflage pants, and a white shirt. The other is dressed in all black. Do not provide a ride to anyone asking for one, do not pick up hitchhikers, and do not disclose police locations. Call 9‑1‑1 to report emergencies or tips. Updates will be posted to the RCMPNS website and official social media accounts. Alert imminent.
