The Truro and Colchester Chamber of Commerce hosted the Business Excellence Awards on Friday, October 16, celebrating the talent, dedication and achievements of our local business community.

Nova Scotia Health is hosting its now-annual Something in Healthcare webinar for high school students and parents on 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟮 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟲:𝟯𝟬 - 𝟳:𝟯𝟬 𝗣𝗠.

The goal is simple - showcase the breadth of careers available in healthcare - from Nursing, to Diagnostic Medical Sonography, to Power Engineering, and simplify the pathways to these careers by highlighting the college and university pathways that directly lead to them. The result is a bolstered healthcare workforce for Nova Scotia, and confident next-steps for graduating students.

Students from all years of study are encouraged to attend!

Hon. Dave Ritcey: Funding to Help Attract and Keep Healthcare Professionals in Truro and Colchester

TRURO – Our community will have more support to attract and retain healthcare professionals thanks to an investment by the Houston government, Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River MLA Dave Ritcey said today.

The Truro & Colchester Partnership for Economic Prosperity will receive $23,544.50 through the Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment Community Fund to help healthcare professionals and their families feel welcome, build connections and put down roots. The funding will support website improvements, appreciation events, Indigenous cultural competency training and support for medical residents.

"Truro and Colchester are working hard to attract healthcare professionals, and this funding strengthens that effort,” said MLA Ritcey. “Support for medical residents, appreciation events and cultural competency training will help us welcome and keep the people who care for our community. That means better access to care for families here at home."

The local funding is part of about $388,000 being provided to 23 organizations across Nova Scotia. Supported projects include welcome and settlement activities, cultural events, professional networking and other community-led recruitment and retention initiatives.

The fund is an action item in Action for Health, the government's strategic plan to improve healthcare in Nova Scotia.

A very warm welcome to the newest cohort of North Nova Family Medicine Residents!

We were thrilled to host a welcome reception and spend time with these physicians as they begin the next chapter of their training here in Nova Scotia.

Over the next two years, they will be learning and working in communities across Colchester, Cumberland, Pictou, and Antigonish counties. We are so pleased to welcome them, support them, and help them feel at home in our region.
