A huge Thank You to the men and women of the Tulameen and District Fire Department. Mel, Davin, Lisa, Drew, Carson, Gord, Frank, Bryan, Tom, Kyle, Dalton, Tyson, Rod, and Jack have been training in Structural Fire Protection, Wildland firefighting, Fire Science, Advanced first aid, EMA-FR, CISM, Wildfire Mitigation, Interior Firefighting, and completing their VIERA firefighting modules. They have compiled over 3,200 hours of training since January, a major commitment to the service in our communities! Much respect and appreciation, Chief Jody Woodford

When most people are heading to bed, wildfire response may be just entering a different phase.

A common misconception is that firefighting stops overnight. The reality is personnel can continue working through the night when conditions are safe and doing so helps achieve incident objectives.

You might find:

🔥Firefighters patrolling, extinguishing hot spots or supporting ignition operations
🚁 Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) helicopters conducting reconnaissance and coordinating aerial firefighting efforts
🚜 Heavy equipment building containment lines
🏠Firefighters doing structure protection and structure defence work

Night operations aren't automatically used on every wildfire. They require careful planning and additional safety considerations, from terrain and access to visibility and medical response capabilities.

But when protecting communities, limiting wildfire growth or taking advantage of favourable overnight conditions requires it, our response can continue long after sunset.

Good morning, have a great day!
