Well well well. What can I say but this post is as surprising to me as it may be to you.

After 2 years I’d watching wood prices soar to unbelievable levels, I’m now seeing close to normal pricing. I remember quoting a deck and realizing it was as cheap for composite as a wood.

I think I’ll have a look and see how feasible it is to once again open trading / quoting and take it from there.

Hello folks and friends and customers and fam. It is with a lot of sadness that I have to announce that the Company is going to be shut down and folded.
Rising lumber prices have driven the smaller players out of the market. Our customer base is generally the average home owner who doesn’t want to bring in the big guns to have something built for 2 x the cost it needs to be.

Also, the cash and dash brigade from Kijiji are causing havoc with their sub standard but cheaper wood; we can’t even come close to those guys alas.

Lastly, the government has a few schemes but none apply to me so while they hold their hands out for tax dollars, there isn’t the ability to make what they would like.

Thanks to all of you for your support for the last few years. It’s been a blast and I hope you enjoy your structures, whatever they are, for many years to come.

The electronics side will be rolling a little while longer due to stock needing purged.

“Can you make a ground level deck that I can cover my grass with?” Absolutely.

We laid a floating deck on concrete pyramids and made the shapes from door to other deck as we went along. Improving by improvising.

Composite grade lattice finished off the look and keeps the critters out of the deck area. And puppies. But we like puppies.

Did someone say composite? Yes they did. As well as saying pergola.

This customer wanted an addition to her deck and a pergola built into it with a privacy screen to the rear.

With the unique shape of the deck we decided on making the steps into a herringbone style join. Take a little more framing but looks really good.

Colour Scheme is “campfire”.

Some people like decks so much they want a second one. A large second one. With stairs down from their first one. This was just the case for a great family in Turner Valley.

The deck was built on 3x3 ply beams supported by 6 screw piles. Frame is 2x8 pressure treated material with pressure treated deck boards.

A question was posed to me a while ago - “are these cuts all junk or can I make something from them?”

Challenge accepted. A little bit of time and adaptation and we have a “patchwork bench”. Made from cutoffs and waste wood. All it took was a little time.
It’s heavy, it’s sturdy and it’s pressure treated so will last years with a little bit of care.

Can either be sanded and finished off as desired or left as is. The wood is all slightly rounded at the corners so it’s pretty smooth for a natural product.

The optical illusion fence. A beautiful and sturdy fortress fence with gates. And an optical illusion.

During the build I walked away and walked back and stopped dead in my tracks as I was sure the middle rail in pic 4 (I think) was at an angle of whiskey level.

After checking my coffee to make sure the homeowner, who is a thoroughly generous guy, hadn’t laced it with something from his collection, I realized that the old human eyes were playing tricks on me.

Certainly made me chuckle.

Neat project of the weekend. A Cedar pergola on a sunny, west facing deck. Finished with powder coated steel brackets and braces. Expense definitely makes the final look for this unit.

Main supports are 6”x6” cedar woth supports drilled and fixed into the concrete patio, a 2”x8” rafter system and finished off with 2”x4” and 2”x2” caps.

It just dawned on me the other day that I haven’t mentioned anything anywhere about alternative services offered by Decks in a Day Inc.

Although wood and outdoor structures are the primary summer business, there are many other aspects that we can also facilitate. And they are nothing at all to do with wood.

Think of smart homes. Yes, that’s right. Smart homes. Automated lights, voice controlled heating and simple things like google home minis / hubs and big speakers.

Think of networking your tv into compatible devices for screen sharing. Think of door locks that you can just say goodbye to in the morning and you home is locked down.

Cameras, both wireless and wires in systems with a variation of storage. Front door bells you can see on your phone, tv, hub or for some lucky people, your fridge.

Starting today I am going to do a few clips on the bonuses of smart homes. Beat in mind that I’m not a professional video editor, so all I use is my phone.
