Family Resource Programs of BC Family Resource Programs of BC (FRP-BC) is a membership organization dedicated to promoting and supporting community-based Family Resource Programs (FRPs).

Family Resource Programs (FRPs) are parent/child interactive centres for families with children 0–6 years. The programs reflect the diversity of the community, and services are designed to strengthen parenting skills, provide stimulating environments for children, and promote family and community engagement. FRPs engage with families through five core areas of service:

1. Family Support
2. Play-based Learning
3. Early Learning and Literacy
4. Parent Education
5. Information and Referrals

The FRP trauma-informed model is based on a comprehensive network of prevention, early intervention, and family supports, connecting thousands of BC families, particularly vulnerable families, every year to relevant programs and services. Services are geared to meet the individual needs of the family and all families are welcome.

The math makes sense. Prevention saves public dollars. When we invest early in children and families, we can address the challenges that people face every day before they reach a crisis point.

This is just one of the reasons that we're advocating for greater investment and support for BC's Family Resource Programs.

As comes to a close, we want to thank everyone who took the time to learn more about their local FRP, advocate for strong family supports, and connect with your government representatives.

Let's keep the momentum going!

What does provincial policy have to do with Family Resource Programs?

A lot – because the goals we set for children and families only matter if they’re felt in everyday life.

BC’s Child and Youth Well-Being Framework sets out a vision for children to thrive. Family Resource Programs put that vision into practice every day, creating welcoming places where families can build connections, find support and access resources in their communities.

That’s why investing in FRPs matters. They’re an essential part of the network of support around children and families – and they need the recognition and resources to keep doing this work.

Why are we participating in Family Resource Program (FRP) Week? 📣

Sustainable funding is an ongoing challenge for Family Resource Programs in BC, including Richmond Family Place. Without adequate financial support, it becomes increasingly difficult to purchase essential program supplies, provide nutritious meals and snacks, and maintain the program hours that families rely on.

Family Resource Program week is an opportunity to shine light on the importance of spaces like Richmond Family Place in our community. To learn more, visit: https://frpbc.ca/

October 19–23 is Family Resource Program Week in British Columbia, celebrating community-based programs that support families with young children, help parents build confidence, and create meaningful connections.

Here at James Bay Community Project, our Family Resource Centre has been welcoming families and helping raise generations of James Bay and Victoria kids. While little ones explore, create, sing, dance, make friends, and discover the world around them, parents and caregivers find support, share experiences, build confidence, and form friendships that can last for years.

And we're so proud of what we've accomplished together! Over the past year, our Family Resource Centre welcomed:
- 374 families
- 436 babies and children
- 3,141 adult visits and 3,450 children's visits across our programs.

But the real impact is best described by the families themselves:
"This group was amazing, saved my mental health."
"Have made friends in the community, have become a more confident parent, have found a place to feel safe and cared about."
"This group is a lifeline. It's extremely special, and I'm so grateful for it."

During Family Resource Program Week, we're celebrating our wonderful families, dedicated staff, and volunteers who make our Family Resource Centre such a special place.
