β˜€οΈ Summer in BC is beautiful! Long, hot days make it the perfect time to enjoy our lakes, beaches, and outdoor spaces.

πŸ”₯ However, summer also brings wildfire season, so it's important to be prepared before an emergency happens.

πŸŽ’ Every member of your household should have a "grab-and-go" emergency bag ready. Experts recommend packing enough supplies for at least 72 hours (3 days), including:

β€’ πŸ‘• Three days' worth of clothing
β€’ πŸ‘Ÿ Closed-toe shoes
β€’ πŸ›οΈ A blanket or sleeping bag
β€’ 🚨 A whistle
β€’ 🩹 A first aid kit
β€’ πŸ”¦ A headlamp or flashlight
β€’ πŸ”‹ Extra batteries
β€’ πŸ”Œ A portable power bank for your phone or tablet
β€’ πŸ’§ Water and non-perishable snacks
β€’ πŸ“‹ Copies of important documents (ID, insurance, emergency contacts)

πŸ’΅ Be sure to keep some cash on hand, as power outages can affect debit and credit card machines.

βœ… Place a checklist near your front door with important items you'll need to grab at the last minute, such as:

β€’ πŸ’Š Medications
β€’ 🧸 Special sensory items or comfort objects
β€’ 🐾 Pet supplies
β€’ πŸ”‘ Keys, wallets, and chargers
β€’ πŸ‘“ Glasses, hearing aids, or other essential equipment

🏑 It's also important to have an evacuation plan. Talk with your family about:

β€’ Where you will go if an evacuation order is issued
β€’ How you will stay in contact if separated
β€’ Multiple routes out of your community
β€’ A meeting place if family members are in different locations

πŸ’š Taking a few simple steps now can help keep you and your loved ones safe if an emergency occurs.

If you're out and about with your family, print off one of our Nature Scavenger Hunt pictures (or snap a picture with your phone if you are on the road) and see if you can find all the "treasures" along your walks.
