Disaster Response Operations in their ravaged communities across our ever-vulnerable world. The Responder’s First Project is raising awareness and funds to help offset the devastating effects of one humanitarian crisis after another unfo

lding indiscriminately across our world—sudden-onset, widespread disasters that engulf and overwhelm entire communities—such as major hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, volcanos, tsunamis, heat domes, atmospheric rivers, and armed conflict, among others. As a global citizen, does helping people to help each other survive in impossible extremes sound good to you—to reduce suffering and loss of life? Not only to benefit one individual or family in crisis, but many worldwide suddenly overcome and struggle in conditions beyond their control. Often, as big government and other relief organizations, each with their respective focus, have yet to mobilize on the scene? Where search, rescue, and recovery go on for weeks into months? If so, this NGO is in focus and needs your support—not as an afterthought, but as a forethought. In concert with the aims of the United Nations, World Health (WHO) and their partners’ core values, to safeguard and preserve lives, regardless of societal pressures—bar none. With increasing frequency—intensity—and ferocity, these sudden onset, widespread disasters have no playlist. As with us living here, up and down the West Coast of North America, these are not just distant events but potential threats that could directly affect you personally, wherever you live, and soon—if they haven’t already. Tragically and with little to no warning, these life-altering uncontrollable events continually remind us how vulnerable and unprepared we are as individuals in a global community. With the sudden intensity of Beryl this early in the year, the Atlantic’s first Cat-5 hurricane that just ripped a path of devastation across the Caribbean, on July 9, ’24, the Colorado Hurricane Center updated its outlook for this season (July-November) from 5 to 6 major hurricanes when the 20-year average (1991-2020) was 3. Now, as one resigns oneself to the coming devastation, it stands to reason that expedited delivery of crucial emergency Search and Rescue (SAR) equipment AID directly to the many impromptu citizen responders who, by wholly external forces, are suddenly thrust into action without essential safety gear in a responder’s first role should be a priority. The prime objective for the Responder's First Project is to supply these untrained citizen responders with essential SAR equipment aid to be safe, secure, and more efficient as first-position responders, that, in essence, only scratches the surface of the benefit to the survivors these targeted donations will touch. With its trickling effect, this aid also impacts the lives of the survivors the responders attend to along the way, and again, helping to reduce suffering and loss of life. Deliberative, the prescribed SAR personal protection equipment (PPE) is driven by the event and need—detailed in the link below—with secondary measures in place, should the equipment sent need redirecting on the fly to others in need. With select gear already lined up to ship—the Responder's First Project time has come. It is unique— guided by experience, collaboration, clarity and vision—and I invite you to read more to glean more about it and us—through the GFM link below. It is a breezy 2-4 minute read, with topical sections to skip through as suits you. Please donate, comment, and share if you will—it all helps. Your questions, comments and ideas for improvement are of great value—so engage us, please. https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-responders-first-project

Thanks for this Glyn Johnston. I'm reposting below and hope others will too …

*** CPR classes don’t always cover this! Something to know. . . a 2 minute read!

When you are alone and have a heart attack, what are you gonna do then?
This is a really good post that can't be shared enough!

1. Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after another hard day's work. You are tired and perhaps frustrated.

2. All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.

3. Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it...

4. Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.

5. How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.

6. But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.

7. Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs 🫁 and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment.

8. Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.

9. FOR WOMEN 👭: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms.

Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue💞

RESPONDER'S FIRST PROjECT - where impossible suffering and lives are on the line.

Many, myself included, tend to stay on the sidelines when it comes to proactive causes like Responder’s First, even when history, science, and forecasting point to the urgency—unless there’s a personal or other emotional connection tied to it. Giving, of course, is also a reflection of the economy.

Here on the West Coast of North America, that personal connection was thrust upon us in late 2021 when at home, there was no escaping an apparent 'new normal’ of frequent, widespread, disastrous events one after another. Not massively destructive windstorms like Hurricanes and Tornados plaguing the eastern states/provinces, but uncontrolled wildfires, extreme heat, and mass flooding landing with regularity across this region and beyond. Yes, the world is changing and, quickly.

Again, Responder’s First is ready with thousands of pieces of search and rescue safety gear set aside for CITIZEN VOLUNTEER RESPONDERS, for where local emergency response coordinators are without these critical supplies and operationally stretched beyond capacity. Demonstrating the need, for instance, look to this year’s September–October Atlantic/Gulf Hurricanes obliterating (intentionally not hyperbolic) communities from Florida to Virginia. Manifesting widespread cataclysmic devastation so extreme, so massive, and so unanticipated, no government/s could oversee the required response quickly or adequately over weeks of disaster operations without significant outside responding aid. What the world’s news is reporting as incomprehensible, “biblical—post-apocalyptic”!

Covering drop shipping/operational costs is urgently needed to get this global aid into the right hands quickly. Are you interested in helping? To learn more about the value of this global initiative and us, link to THE RESPONDER'S FIRST PROjECT primary GFM page. Without significant government or other beneficial financial support, individual small-dollar donor funding is required to deliver on our promise to help reduce suffering and loss of life in communities devastated by disasters worldwide—far & away and, as needed, closer to home.

Not one of the public awareness/preparedness initiatives we have participated in has delivered without like-minded folks paddling in the same direction. They have mostly been multi-pronged undertakings involving many stalwart collaborators along the way with varying skills and or resources from which the outreach benefited. The same will be true here. Whatever you have to contribute, please consider us.

The Responder’s First Project is about reducing suffering and saving lives by pro-activley equipping those suddenly thrust into action as ad-hoc responders with the essential gear they lack. Enhancing their safety and efficiency as they assist in crucial search, rescue and recovery roles.

RESPONDER'S FIRST PROjECT UPDATE

Responder’s First is ready with thousands of pieces of search and rescue safety gear destined for CITIZEN VOLUNTEER RESPONDERS, wherein local emergency response coordinators are without these critical supplies and operationally stretched beyond capacity. Generally, this personal protection equipment aid is for far less fortunate regions of the world where such emergency provisioning and pre-planning do not exist, for little else other than sheer economics. In other words, they need help!

This is not to say that more prosperous regions could not find themselves also needing to better equip their citizens stepping up to assist with search, rescue and recovery. Like currently in Florida to Virginia, for instance, for weeks ahead in the wake of Hurricane Helene—amidst what CNN is reporting as incomprehensible, “biblical—post-apocalyptic.” Demonstrating, as a sign of the times, yet another widespread devastation so extreme, so massive, and so unanticipated that no government/s could mitigate the required response quickly or adequately over weeks of disaster operations without significant outside responding aid.

To better equip local citizen volunteer responders in a coordinated manner, as proposed in these evolving times, both quickly and efficiently, for search, rescue and recovery operations far and wide is undoubtedly excellent, proactive first responder work. Still, the volume of donor funds needed to be ready and able to deliver on these promises is a constant challenge.

Funds for drop shipping operational costs are needed the most . Are you interested to help? Without significant government or other beneficial funding, individual small-dollar donor funding is required to deliver on our promise to help reduce suffering and loss of life in communities devastated by disasters worldwide. As it goes for most non-government organizations, this community outreach needs broad support—including our own and perhaps yours.

The Responder’s First Project. Its purpose is to help the overwhelmed help each other survive in such unexpected, impossible extremes. To provide local coordinators aid for those who, due to external forces, are thrust into action as responders without essential personal protection equipment (PPE). Supplying these ad-hoc citizen responders with locally unavailable but essential Search & Rescue gear helps ensure their safety, security, and efficiency in a critical life-preserving role. In turn, the equipment provided also helps safeguard those whom these Good Samaritans respond to, directly and indirectly.

But not for us, then, who?
