💰 Operating a B-52 costs roughly US$88,000–95,000 per flight hour, while a KC-135 costs around US$25,000–30,000 per flight hour. 🛩️ The U-2 Dragon Lady: The Spy Plane That Refuses to Retire

For over 70 years, the legendary Lockheed U-2 “Dragon Lady” has flown some of the world’s most sensitive intelligence missions. Capable of soaring above 70,000 feet (21 km), it can gather high-resolution imagery, signals intelligence, and reconnaissance data from altitudes beyond the reach of most aircraft.

Despite being designed in the 1950s, the U-2 remains in active service because of its incredible ability to carry advanced sensors, adapt to new technology, and stay airborne for 10–12 hours on a single mission. Its unique bicycle-style landing gear and extremely high-altitude handling make it one of the most challenging aircraft to fly, requiring pilots to wear full pressure suits similar to those used by astronauts.

The Dragon Lady has played a key role in major world events—from the Cold War to modern-day intelligence operations—and continues to prove that sometimes the oldest aircraft are still among the most capable.
