From walking through the doors of Covenant House Vancouver (CHV) as a young person in need of support to now working on the frontlines as a youth worker, Christine’s journey is one of incredible transformation.

On Monday night, she was recognized with the SPOKEN Changemaker Award, honouring her resilience, healing, and commitment to giving back. As a former CHV youth, Christine now supports other young people with compassion, insight, and lived experience.

We are so proud of you, Christine, and the meaningful impact you make every day. 💙

Thank you, Tassan Sung, Spoken Leadership & Education and Nicola Wealth for recognizing her in this powerful way.

June is National Indigenous History Month, in Canada.

Homelessness affects Indigenous Peoples at a massively disproportionate rate compared to other groups, even though they represent only 5% of the Canadian population.

In Greater Vancouver, 34% of homeless individuals identify as Indigenous.

Homelessness among Indigenous Peoples can be traced back to historical trauma, oppression, racism, and discrimination, as a result of colonization.

CHV works with Indigenous youth to overcome these adversities so that they can realize their full potential.

The inclusivity of our programs and services provides a safe environment where these youth are respected, seen, heard, and valued. We also provide Indigenous-specific supports to meet the needs of this community.

We:
· Served 149 Indigenous youth across all programs
· Supported 24 Indigenous youth in our Crisis Program
· Provided support, through our Drop-In Centre and Outreach services, for the 24% of the youth population who identified as Indigenous

Our donors continue to lead by example. This spring, the Wubs Family Foundation is once again matching donations, because they believe deeply in the impact of Covenant House Vancouver.

They shared: “Covenant House Vancouver’s commitment to providing a Continuum of Care truly transforms lives and creates opportunities which, in turn, help build a stronger, more compassionate community.”

This is their third year supporting us — contributing over $200,000 to help youth in need.

Every gift made, before June 30, will be matched by the Wubs Family Foundation.

What does it take for organizations to achieve transformative change?

The Discovery Group podcast chats with organizations about career journeys, the evolving landscape, and the pressing challenges that are shaping the community.

Deb Lester, CEO of Covenant House Vancouver, shares how the growth of the organization, from buildings to programs, was crucial to better meet the needs of vulnerable youth in the community.

This expansion gives CHV the ability to better serve youth and create a lasting impact on both the youth and the community.

35 = five nourishing meals for a youth at CHV

A meal is more than food on a plate. It’s:
- An opportunity to connect with other youth and trained staff
- A feeling of comfort and belonging
- A chance to rely on a routine and feel safe
- A healthy, nutritious way for youth to care for themselves

Last year, we provided 160,000+ meals for youth, at CHV.

Because of you, a young person feels welcomed, cared for, and no longer alone.

From now until June 30, every donation you make will be doubled, thanks to the Wubs Family Foundation. ✨

May 17 was International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia.

2SLGBTQIA+ youth are overrepresented in the homeless population. In Canada, that’s 25%–40% of youth experiencing homelessness.

At CHV, 35% of the youth we serve identify as 2SLGBTQIA+.

Family rejection is the most common cause of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth homelessness.

We strive to be a safe and inclusive space, for all youth.

Some of the ways we do this are through:
• Mental health care and community-specific art therapy
• An active partnership with Qmunity
• Participation in Vancouver Pride and the D**e March
• 2SLGBTQIA+ specific nights in our Drop-In Centre

We are committed to fostering welcoming and respectful spaces for all individuals and communities, and we engage in meaningful practices that empower young people on their journey to a brighter future.

Our donors show how we take care of each other.

To us and the young people we support, they’re heroes.

Andrew is one of those heroes.

A former foster child who moved from home to home, he eventually found his forever family. That experience shaped him — and inspired him to give back.

For Andrew, being a supporter began with Toonies for Teens, where he collected spare change in a Pringles can, to support youth at Covenant House Vancouver, who were going down a path who were going down a similar path to him.

Andrew understands how much it matters to youth to have people who believe in them, listen to their stories, and see mistakes as learning opportunities rather than failure.

Andrew’s story shows how one small act of generosity can grow into something extraordinary.

This is why we want to celebrate our donors. From now until June 30, every donation you make with be doubled, thanks to the Wubs Family Foundation. ✨

$34 = one night of care for a youth in need.

A bed is more than a place to sleep. It’s:
• Security for a young person who may not have felt safe in a long time
• A place to rest and recover
• A chance to hope and dream again

Last year, we provided 40,000+ bed nights for youth, at CHV.
