Recently in Prince Rupert, Innovate BC’s Peter Cowan and Sheila Schindel had the opportunity to see innovations deployed through the come together for a friendly head-to-head race, marking the beginning of what is expected to be many joint challenges and collaborative data-collection opportunities 🏁

The demonstration featured technology from Open Ocean Robotics and Shift Coastal Technologies, deployed through partnerships with the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) and Gitxaałan Environmental Services. The vessels completed an out-and-back course of nearly one nautical mile, offering an opportunity to demonstrate their unique capabilities while highlighting how B.C.-developed technologies are helping industry partners gather data, support environmental compliance, and protect marine ecosystems.

While in Prince Rupert, Peter and Sheila also met with leadership from the Prince Rupert Port Authority, toured the port to see major infrastructure developments underway, and visited the PRPA Control Tower project with Falcon, gaining a firsthand look at how innovation and investment are helping shape the future of one of Canada's most important gateways.

Last week, Innovate BC was in Prince Rupert to see firsthand the progress being made through ongoing projects delivered through our programs, including the Heavy Duty Zero Emission Vehicle (HDZEV) project.

As part of their visit, Peter Cowan, President + CEO, and Sheila Schindel, Executive Director, Program Strategy + Delivery, toured a hydrogen fueling station at Grassy Bay where they saw key infrastructure coming together through HDZEV, including a new transformer installed by BC Hydro and hydrogen station components installed by Hydra Energy.

The team at Hydra and representatives from Metlakatla Development Corporation walked our team through the various components and explained how the system will operate once commissioned.

The ongoing efforts through HDZEV highlights the importance of collaboration in advancing clean transportation solutions and building the infrastructure needed to support a low-carbon future across British Columbia.

Canada’s farms are increasingly turning to robotics, automation and AI-powered technologies to boost productivity, address labour challenges and strengthen long-term competitiveness.

We were thrilled to see Innovate BC’s BC On-Farm Technology Adoption Program recognized in Digital Journal’s latest look at how technology is transforming agriculture across Canada.

Delivered by Innovate BC on behalf of the Province of British Columbia and funded through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the program helps B.C. producers adopt innovative, labour-saving technologies that enhance efficiency, profitability and resilience on the farm. Since launching in 2023, the program has supported more than 130 farm projects across the province.

As B.C.’s agriculture sector continues to innovate, we’re proud to help farmers access the tools and technologies that will shape the future of food production.

Innovate BC is pleased to announce that effective May 31, 2026, Jessie Adcock is the new Chair of Innovate BC’s Board of Directors, for a one-year term.

Jessie has served on our Board since June 2025 and brings exceptional leadership experience across both the public and private sectors. She is a multi-disciplinary leader with deep expertise in strategy, technology, operations, culture transformation, and large-scale program delivery, shaped by senior roles with organizations including the Government of Canada, Finning International, the City of Vancouver, and HSBC Group. Jessie currently serves as Host Committee Lead for Vancouver’s FIFA World Cup 2026 organizing efforts, where she is helping deliver one of the most complex and high-profile global events in B.C.’s history.

Innovate BC would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our outgoing Chair, Emilie de Rosenroll, for her leadership and contributions during her tenure.
