🎃✨ Spooktacular Halloween Party 2026 ✨🎃

On October 16, SVNH welcomed approximately 37 community members to our Spooktacular Halloween Party, a successful Neighbourhood Small Grant event that brought together newcomers, long-term residents, volunteers, and families for an afternoon of fun and connection.

The event was organized by seven dedicated volunteers from the Multicultural Women Peer Mentoring Group, who worked together from the planning stage through to event delivery. Their commitment and collaboration demonstrated the powerful role volunteers play in building inclusive and connected communities.

The celebration opened with a land acknowledgement and traditional drumming to honour mothers and families, creating a meaningful space for cultural appreciation, learning, and community building.

Thank you to our volunteers, participants, and the Neighbourhood Small Grants program for helping make this event a success. 💜

Last week, SVNH's Multicultural Settlement Counsellors joined the 4th session of the Vancouver Community of Practice (CoP)! 🤝

We learned how faith leaders from different religions welcome and support newcomers, and explored how language, culture, and faith shape the way newcomers access services. We also connected with faith-based, Francophone, and non-profit organizations, finding new ways to work together for the communities we serve.

A special thank you to the Vancouver Bahá'í Centre for welcoming us into their space, and to everyone who shared their experience. We're bringing these learnings back to our work at SVNH! 💙

Thanksgiving Care Packages

As a way of giving back to the community, Jovel, one of our parent volunteers, applied for a grant and partnered with SVNH to prepare and distribute Thanksgiving care packages. Staff from the Settlement Team and Youth Team, along with our practicum students, and a volunteer joined in to help make this initiative a success!

The Childcare Team, led by Lestor, also made cute and adorable cards to include in each bag, adding a special personal touch to every care package. ❤️

A big thank-you to everyone who contributed their time, effort, and kindness to make this initiative possible. Together, we’re spreading warmth, care, and gratitude throughout our community this Thanksgiving! 🧡🦃

We were honored to welcome Khalsa Aid to South Vancouver Neighbourhood House for a special community lunch.
Khalsa Aid has generously supported newcomers, migrant workers and families in need by donating food, clothing, shoes, household items and winter jackets to our community. Their kindness and ongoing support have made a meaningful difference to many families.
As a gesture of appreciation and strengthening our ongoing partnership SVNH invited the Khalsa Aid team on October 3rd, 2026 to a simple lunch and presented them with an Indigenous drum crafted and painted by Chris Wilson (our Indigenous Community Programmer) from Haisla Nations.
