Yesterday, community organizations, including PACE Society, released a statement expressing alarm at the City of Vancouver’s decision to eliminate one of two S*x Work Social Planner positions. These roles were created in direct response to the failures identified in the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry. It was intended to ensure that the safety and voices of s*x workers are never ignored again.

This decision does not exist in isolation. It comes in the context of years of evidence-based research and community organizing, including the “By Us, For Us” report, which highlights the complex and intersecting risks s*x workers face—from violence and stigma to the ongoing impacts of the toxic drug crisis, systemic racism, and gaps in health and social supports.

At a time when the need for coordinated, community-informed responses is clear, removing the position undermines safety, trust, and accountability.

After multiple reports, inquiries, and recommendations, centering community voices should be the bare minimum.

We are calling on the City of Vancouver to reinstate this critical position and demonstrate a real commitment to s*x worker safety.

Thank you to everyone who bought tickets, donated, and helped make the special screening of Hookers on Davie such a meaningful evening. It was powerful to gather together in community, reflect on the history captured in the film, and honour the resilience and leadership of s*x workers in Vancouver.

A huge thank you to the Vancouver S*x Work Community Alliance and its partners for organizing the event and creating space for the important conversation on s*x work advocacy.

The evening raised $2,576.36, which will be shared equally between PACE Society and Living in Community. We are deeply grateful for the care, solidarity, and community support. The funds raised will go towards meals, stipends, and mental health/cultural supports for our engagement sessions this spring.

For those who missed the February screening, PACE is working on another potential showing later this summer or in the fall. Stay tuned.

Today is International S*x Workers’ Rights Day ✨

This day began in 2001, when more than 25,000 s*x workers gathered in India for a festival. It was a powerful act of collective visibility, solidarity, and resistance. In 2002, organizations around the world were invited to join in commemorating March 3, and since then, s*x workers and allies have organized events to raise awareness about the human rights abuses s*x workers face.

Today is about autonomy, safety, and dignity. It is about demanding recognition of s*x work as work, freedom from criminalization, and legal protection from violence and abuse. It is about challenging stigma and the harmful conflation of s*x work with trafficking…a conflation that many frontline organizations have warned increases isolation and vulnerability rather than reducing harm.

Policies that govern s*x work must include s*x workers. Criminalization deepens stigma, limits access to health care and housing, and entrenches poverty. Decriminalization, grounded in a human rights framework, is widely recognized by s*x worker–led movements as the path toward safety and self-determination.

This day shines a spotlight on s*x worker activism, community, and strength. It calls on institutions to:

• stop police harassment and violence
• ensure safe and fair working conditions
• eliminate barriers to health care, housing, and other services
• end stigma and discrimination
• meaningfully address trafficking without harming s*x workers
• advance racial, gender, and economic justice

A graphic with a soft pink background features bold red text at the top that reads, “SEX WORKER RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS.” Below the text, a smiling person is shown in black and white, holding an open bright red umbrella above their head. The umbrella stands out in vivid color against the otherwise grayscale figure. The person appears joyful, looking slightly upward with one hand raised as if gesturing or speaking. The overall design uses the red umbrella as a focal point and symbol of s*x worker rights activism.

On February 10, 2026, the Vancouver S*x Work Community Alliance and partners hosted a special screening of Hookers on Davie. Hookers on Davie is a 1984 landmark documentary that continues to shape conversations about s*x work, media, and community organizing.

Proceeds from the evening will support PACE Society and Living in Community.

Justin Ducharme, q***r Michif writer, filmmaker, experiential s*x worker, and PACE board member, delivered one of the opening remarks that called on attendees to center s*x worker voices, protect lived experience leadership, and push for meaningful inclusion in policymaking.

We will be reporting the total proceeds soon. Funds raised will go toward meals, stipends, and cultural safety supports for our projects this Spring.

As Justin reminded the audience: s*x workers will continue to organize.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, and helped make the night possible ❤️✨
